Offensive Scouting Report

  • The Browns really suffered last year by not being able to do much on the offensive end. This season does not look a whole lot better, but they are the perfect team for rebuilding. If you’re looking for a roster with young talent that can really be transformed into anything, this is your team.
  • Josh McCown had a little bit of trouble getting used to leading this team, but as he warms up to his WR bench and teaches the plethora of new rookies coming in, there should be some improvements and plenty of talented receiver options.
  • The offseason has been decent for the Browns’ offensive line. They’ve drafted some new members and should be able to take a little pressure off of their QB this season. Defense may win games, but the offense must finish them this season if they hope to have a shot at the playoffs. However, with the new and major draft choices, there may be some light at the end of the tunnel.

Defensive Scouting Report

  • Last season was probably one of the strongest efforts the Browns will experience for a couple of years. That doesn’t mean that they had a terrible offseason, though. The majority of the roster is still strong, but some work still remains to be done.
  • The addition of DB Rahim Moore is huge. Because of the zone defense mechanics in this season of Madden NFL, Moore should prove to be a great asset to the defense—not to mention the addition of DB Don Jones to join him.
  • The Browns defense still retains some of the better CBs in the league; this will be your best weapon against any opponent’s offense. The Browns’ weakness is definitely the short game, and it is easy to pick apart their defense a few yards at a time. Keep this in mind when calling plays because stuffing the line of scrimmage is a good way to combat this problem when necessary.

SCHEDULE

Key Players

  • Joe Thomas has an amazing ability to get off the line and hold his position against even the best defensive linemen. His strength and durability will keep the quarterback protected with much less effort than any other lineman.
  • Because of the new Gap Play in Madden NFL 17, Thomas’ Awareness rating should stuff anyone attempting to break through the line.
  • Haden is fast and he knows what he’s doing. With the ability to cover ground quickly, use him to play the zone and hold the edge as much as possible.
  • Haden is a great CB who can match up with almost every WR in the league, which is something the Browns will sorely need this season. His speed and ability to read the play should allow him to get back to coverage in an instant.
  • The Browns need fast WRs and they got one this season. Continue to develop Coleman’s speed and elusiveness, and he will become a valuable asset on the offensive end.
  • As a young player with an extraordinarily high rating, you can use Coleman’s XP almost anywhere in his ratings chart and he will only get better. It might be useful to focus on something he is already good at like his ELU rating.
  • Don Jones is quick and while he may not have the best Awareness rating on the team, he makes up for it with his speed. Get him in the right position and expect some big plays.
  • Zone defense is huge for players like Jones. Being able to hold the edge will be key and Jones is the man to do it.
