STAR WARS™ Battlefront™ eGuide Multiplayer Game Modes

Walker Assault

Battle over the massive AT-ATs in this mobile attack and defend game.

The Empire has deployed formidable AT-ATs to wipe out the Rebel resistance once and for all. To combat this powerful threat, the Rebels have hidden away multiple uplinks that must be defended at all costs. These uplinks can call in Y-wings from the galaxy to bomb the AT-ATs. It is only during the bombing raid that the AT-ATs can be damaged.

If one or more AT-ATs reach their destination, the Empire wins. If all AT-ATs are destroyed, victory belongs to the Rebels.

Objectives

Empire: Keep uplinks offline to stop the Rebel bombing raids.

Rebels: Keep uplinks active to add more Y-wings to the bombing raid.

Empire: Defend the AT-ATs from Rebel attacks during bombing raids.

Rebels: Attack the AT-ATs during the raid to destroy them.

Empire: If the AT-ATs survive, you win.

Rebels: Destroy all AT-ATs to win.

Overview

The concept of Walker Assault is simple: the Empire must safely protect the AT-AT walkers traveling past the three uplink checkpoints, or the Rebel forces must destroy all walkers present on the planet. The way that each side accomplishes its goal is the complex piece that requires both teamwork and a little bit of situational luck. Walker Assault takes place in the largest sections of each planet, which means that there is plenty of room to roam and a lot of area to cover. Work side by side with your partner and in coordination with the rest of your team to cover as much land as possible. There are only two stages in Walker Assault, but these two stages cycle through three whole sections of each map. The first stage is the uplink stage. The Rebels must attempt to activate one or both of the uplinks for the longest possible time, while the Imperial stormtroopers work to prevent the uplinks from being activated. The longer the uplinks are activated, the more Y-wings are called in during the walker stage. During the walker stage, Y-wings enter the battlefield and fire disabling bombs on the AT-ATs, leaving them vulnerable as long as the Y-wings keep coming.

Walker Assault Tactics

The more Y-wings that are called into the battlefield, the longer each AT-AT walker stays vulnerable. However, just because they are vulnerable does not necessarily mean that they will be damaged. The match is determined by both phases in Walker Assault, so even if five Y-wings are called in, the Empire still has a chance to fend off all attacking Rebels. When playing on the Empire side during the walker stage, take your focus off of the uplinks. Patrol the perimeter of each AT-AT to prevent Rebels from firing on your walker.

During the walker phase, use the Snowspeeders or Landspeeders to wrap up either AT-AT with the TOW-cable. Keep in mind that you only have as much time as the walkers are vulnerable to trip each walker, so start the process early. The timing for when the walkers go into their vulnerable stage does not change, so jump into a speeder before the stage starts to give yourself as much time as possible. When attacking the AT-ATs aim all of your fire at the belly of the walker, this is the weak spot and shooting this area will cause much more than normal amounts of damage to it.

Time is of the utmost importance to the Rebel troops. There is a finite time in the match, let alone between the stages of the mode. Due to the interest of time, Rebel troopers become expendable. It is smart to coordinate with your team to charge uplinks and attack them in groups or from multiple sides simultaneously. However, do not waste time waiting for your team to come from the deployment area. It may be beneficial just to try your luck and see if you can take an uplink by yourself for at least a few seconds. If your team is coming from the deployment area, by the time you are found and killed after activating the uplink, they might be able to defend any stormtroopers attempting to undo your hard work.

AT-ST walkers have much less armor on the back side of the vehicle, so shooting it from behind will take it down much faster than taking it head on.
