STAR WARS™ Battlefront™ Guide › Missions › Training

The Dark Side

Location: Hoth Rebel Base

Hero: Darth Vader or Emperor Palpatine

Opponents: Rebel infantry

Difficulty: Easy

Mission Brief

The Rebel forces are scrambling to maintain control of their base as dark Lords of the Sith invade. Embrace the dark side, and wipe them out.

How to get Stars

Name Condition
Job Done Complete the mission.
3 Min Complete within three minutes.
Efficient Complete with 75 percent or more health left.

Eliminate the Rebels and take control of the base. The Lords of the Sith enter the Rebel base with a small squad of snowtroopers. Before starting your massacre of the helpless Rebels, you must choose between Darth Vader and Emperor Palpatine. The two options offer differing play styles, but they both provide devastating power. As you move into the structure, Rebel forces appear farther inside. Reinforcements appear in waves as you defeat each group.

Playing the Hero

Darth Vader Abilities

Ability Name Button Description
Force Choke Left Card Ability Choke current target for an instant kill.
Heavy Strike Top Card Ability Perform a strong charging group saber attack. Use this against small packs to wipe them out with one swing of your weapon.
Saber Throw Right Card Ability Throw your lightsaber at distant enemies. You can take out multiple foes with a well-placed toss.
Saber Defense Zoom (Hold) Use the saber to deflect blaster bolts back at the target. Keep defense up between attacks whenever shots are incoming.
Saber Strike Fire Strike with the lightsaber.
Lock on to Target Melee Attack Lock on to the target.

Emperor Palpatine Abilities

Ability Name Button Description
Chain Lightning Left Card Ability This powerful, long-range lightning attack chains between nearby enemies. It is highly effective against groups of Rebels.
Imperial Resources Top Card Ability Spawn a hero health pick-up just in front of Palpatine. Grab one immediately if your health is down, or save it for later.
Force Dash Right Card Ability Perform a quick, twisting leap to escape cornering or close ground on a target in a hurry.
Block Zoom (Hold) Use your hands to block blaster shots, greatly reducing damage taken.
Force Lightning Fire Perform a short-range lightning strike. Hold to continually stream lightning from fingertips. The white meter drains until the ability must recharge.
Lock on to Target Melee Attack Lock on to the target.

Besides their overwhelming power, there are not too many differences between controlling the way a hero is played compared to a normal soldier. Heroes do not use Star Cards and instead are equipped with three abilities, which also require a cool-down period after each use. Those without blasters have another ability mapped to the Zoom button. In these cases, clicking the Melee Attack button locks on to a target. For the two Imperial heroes selectable in this mission, you must be relatively close to your opponent to use the regular attack.

Five waves of Rebel infantry attempt to rid their base of the Imperial trespassers.

Just inside hangar — Six Rebels with blaster pistols and blaster rifles

Enter through back blast doors — Five Rebels with blaster rifles and heavy blasters

Second-floor walkway — Four Rebels with blaster rifles

From main hangar doors — Four Rebels with blaster rifles and heavy blasters

Final group from main hangar doors — 11 Rebels with blaster rifles and heavy blasters, including some with shields and Jump Packs

The Rebel soldiers are not much of a match for Darth Vader or Emperor Palpatine, so defeating them is not a huge challenge. However, the final group of 11 soldiers can easily surround you if allowed to do so, and this is where you receive the most damage. Methodically pick off the Rebel scum to complete your hero training.

Force Lightning, Health, and Base Control Meters

When you play as Palpatine, three meters are utilized on the HUD, while Darth Vader only uses two. At the top of the screen, Base Control shows your mission progress. It slowly fills until you finish off the last group of Rebels. At the bottom, your health is shown as a yellow bar. When playing as Palpatine, a white bar appears above your health that represents his Force Lightning. Once the white is drained completely, this ability must be recharged.

Earning Three Stars

To earn all three stars in a run, you must complete the mission within three minutes and with at least 75 percent health remaining at the end. The final wave of Rebels is fairly large, so you should stick to the outside to keep your health up. Of course, Palpatine can simply deploy a hero health pick-up for a small recovery.
