The Funeral

After picking up Jackie from prison, you learn that Inspector Teng tried to turn him into a snitch. He “politely” refused. On the drive to the Aspirazone shop to pick up clothes for the funeral, Wei presses Jackie for more information about the deal Teng tried to cut with Jackie, but he’s noncommittal about the subject. However, during the longer ride to the cemetery, it’s obvious that Jackie’s time in prison, his first kill, Uncle Po’s death, and his talk with Teng have shaken his confidence in the life he’s led up to this point.

At the funeral, the 18k watch the Sun On Yee leadership mourn their fallen Chairman, while the police act as a buffer between the two groups. As Sonny Wo arrives, Pendrew’s people make their big arrest, and then prepare to leave the Sun On Yee to the 18k. An infuriated Wei, still acting the part of a Red Pole, shouts at Pendrew, demanding respect for Uncle Po. Pendrew says that the 18k are about to do a great service to Hong Kong, and that anyone staying behind deserves their fate. It’s obvious now that Pendrew sees Wei as a loose end that can be easily written off as a mere casualty during a Triad war. With the cops gone, the Sun On Yee arms itself just as the first waves of 18k make their move.

The gun battle starts with Wei behind a gravestone just as six 18k gunmen open fire on the Sun On Yee. You begin the fight armed with an SMG. This section of the cemetery is filled with gravestones big enough to act as cover for everyone in the battle, so be careful about reckless advances. You can find yourself flanked very quickly. Push forward after this first wave is wiped out, and consider picking up an assault rile. The high stopping power of that weapon will come in handy.

As you push forward, two more gunmen try to stop you, but they are at a lower elevation to you and are therefore at the disadvantage. You can either vault over the railing and shoot them on the way down or snipe them from the upper level. As soon as they are killed, seven more gunmen will rush into the next lower area up ahead, using the gravestones to cover their advance to the stairs leading up to the Sun On Yee. Quickly move into cover, and then try to thin out 18k’s numbers first before charging into the fray.

Once this new wave is taken down, a thug with a grenade launcher opens fire on the main stairwell leading down to the parking lot. You have to take the riverbed to the far right down to the lower level and kill this gunner to take his weapon. His assault rifle/grenade launcher combo comes with a full load of ammo, as well as sixteen grenades just waiting to be used on the 18k. Eliminate the other four thugs in the area to allow the Sun On Yee to join Wei at the lower level, then eliminate the last two guards in front of the temple at the next lower level.

The 18k are holding the parking lot, blocking the Sun On Yee’s only hope for escape. You have a grenade launcher, though, which means nowhere is safe from your wrath. Destroy the cars the 18k are using for cover with well-placed grenades. When their reinforcements arrive, you can prevent them from even getting out of their vans.

In the aftermath of the attack, Big Smile Lee is on the warpath. He suggests that he be the next Chairman, in light of the fact that he is the most powerful and most feared, and is willing to lead the Triad on the path of blood and vengeance against both the 18k and the police. Jiang demands that there be an election, as per the Sun On Yee code, to which both Wei and Pockmark agree. Furious, Big Smile Lee says they can hold the election, but threatens that should he not be elected, the Sun On Yee will suffer the consequences.

After another sleepless night, Wei awakens to a text from Conroy. Apparently something “big” is going down.
