Vivienne is at a shopping center not very far from Sonny’s apartment. Ricky’s car is a startlingly fast beast despite not looking like a supercar. Take some time to get used to the handling—you’re going to need it very soon.
Vivienne is less that pleased to see Wei, having expected Ricky in his place. Her friend Sandra, however, has taken an immediate liking to Wei. She asks if he has steady hands at high speeds, to which he can confidently reply he does. Since Wei is to do whatever the girls want, and Vivienne has been reduced to the role of passenger in the backseat, Sandra’s suggestion to hit up a race is the order of the day. Drive on over to the nearby car rally.
If you’re interested in further background on Sandra, Vivienne, and Sonny Wo, take a roundabout route to the races. Sandra has a fair bit of gossip to unload on you.
At the car rally, Sandra spots one of her victims/admirers, a street racer named Alex. He’s tries to act unimpressed and not at all jealous of her newly christened boy-toy driver. Wei challenges him to a race, with the prize being the girls. Alex ups the ante to include a hundred thousand bucks, and stomps off to his car.
Welcome to race day. Your color commentator for the event will be Sandra, with the occasional yelp of fright provided by Vivienne.
This race is surprisingly long, despite how fast all of the cars involved truly are. Ricky’s car, however, is a monster designed to win races just like this. There’s something under the hood that belongs in a different car, for sure. There aren’t too many difficult sections to drive through, with the early part of the race actually being the toughest, since it takes place more on surface streets and is filled with sharper turns to make. Once you get out onto more open roads, the superior acceleration and top-end speed of your own ride should overtake any other racer here.
After the start, the track curves to the right and feeds right into a hard right turn. Try to avoid hitting the support pillars of the overpass as you make the turn. If you’re losing too much speed during the turns, try to position yourself in front of other cars to help push you back up to speed.
Shortly after the right comes a hard left, followed by a hard right that leads into a series of S-curves that ultimately turn into another hard right.
You eventually pass through what appears to be a police roadblock. A cop car joins the race, hoping to nail one of the racers. The section just past this narrows the track considerably as it curves around a building near the docks before opening up once again. You’re headed to the freeway, and at this point, if you’re not already ahead, this is where you’ll guarantee the win. The freeway to Kennedy Town is four lanes wide, with few obstacles to stop you from just holding down the throttle to leave Alex and friends in the dust.
Be careful with the exit off the freeway though, as it’s a narrow one-lane on-ramp. Compared to the early parts of the race, this final stretch is filled with smooth, easy-to-read curves all the way to the finish.
Winners have no need for drugs or awkward hover-hands. Wei Shen is a winner, all the time.
They also have no need to be arrested by the cops. You sadly have to ditch the hundred grand cash prize, since nobody is sticking around to fork it over. Ditch the cops using Ricky’s Destroyer of Racing Egos, then bring the ladies back to Vivienne’s place.
Tip
You should, at most, have one cop car after you during this chase. There are a lot of places in the area where the racers gathered where you can lure the pursuit car into a tight spot, then leave it in the dust while the cop struggles to navigate back out to continue the chase.
Sandra is most pleased with the results of the race, and says that Wei is welcome to a second date with her any time. Vivienne is simply grateful to have made it home. Your favor for Sonny and Ricky is complete.
You get a phone call the next morning from Ilyana. Apparently, her friend Katushka has gone missing, and has not been seen for a week. You’re the only person she feels she can turn to. Katushka is an illegal immigrant, and the authorities would likely not bat an eye if such a person disappeared. Wei promises to check it out.
