Sleeping Dogs eGuide Walkthrough A Little Money on the Side

Jobs

The three major side jobs become available at different points in the game, and exist to help build up your Face level and your overall cash reserves.

Martial Arts Club

1. Martial Arts Club: North Point

This location starts the first wave with one opponent, and ramps up to seven fighters by the sixth wave, involving a mix of regular thugs, Brawlers, and Grapplers. There’s a decent amount of space to work with, so if the need to fall back and catch your breath comes up, you can do that. This club enjoys a serious environmental hazard you can exploit to your benefit. The railing at the back of the arena looks over a fairly long drop, and it’s possible to throw your victims over the railing, immediately removing them from the fight while also building up your Face Meter quickly.

2. Martial Arts Club: Central

The actual arena this time is physically smaller, but there’s more places you can use to throw thugs off of ledges. Be careful you don’t fall off the arena yourself. There’s a good chance you’ll fall out of bounds and will be forced to start all six waves from the beginning.

Speaking of those six waves, it’s a slow start as before, with a single thug facing you on the first wave, building up to a nine-on-one fight for wave six.

3. Martial Arts Club: Kennedy Town

The Kennedy Town club doesn’t have a convenient ledge to fling people off of, so you’ll have to slug it out and slam thugs head-first into the nearby cargo containers. There is a jump in the number of foes you’ll be facing during the final waves, with the sixth wave featuring a dozen opponents of various types. If you’re taking this club on early in the game, you likely do not have access to the most powerful melee moves in Wei’s arsenal, which can make this club a rough fight. Remember to time your Counters well to avoid getting caught in middle of the recovery animation for missed Counters. With so many opponents in the later waves, mistakes can be very costly.

Be especially wary of getting grappled from behind. With so many more opponents around, there are a lot of people who can deny your escape attempts and cost you a lot of health. Make sure you stun any other thugs closing in before trying to mash your way out of the grapple.

4. Martial Arts Club: Aberdeen

As the last of the martial arts clubs, it is the hardest, featuring the most opponents and a more confined space than the previous battle, while also lacking any quick ways to remove an opponent from the field for extra Face. The final wave puts you up against thirteen opponents, with every preceding wave featuring more opponents than you’ve seen per group at other clubs. This will likely be the hardest test in hand-to-hand combat you can face early on in the story. If you’ve made it this far, you already have a fairly good idea on how to deal with large crowds of enemies, and those lessons still apply here.

Car Deliveries

After the “Popstar” Case has been closed, and Wei has solidified some measure of trust in the Water Street Gang, Jackie’s Uncle Tran will have some work lined up for him: finding cars to be sold to customers at his chop shops. Tran has a surprisingly extensive network of spotters that allow him to find target vehicles quickly for people like Wei, who then go out and “acquire” those vehicles from their owners and drive them back to a designated garage. As soon as Tran texts Wei the general location of a car, it will appear on the mini-map and can even be used as a GPS target. There are twenty targets to steal being driven around Hong Kong.

This is an incredibly lucrative job, if you’re able to deliver the cars in mint condition. Early rides aren’t worth so much, but some of the later cars you’re asked to bring in are worth hundreds of thousands in HK dollars. If you want to truly max out your reward, you’re going to have to show more finesse while taking and delivering these cars! Some helpful tips include:

  • Take a reasonably fast and bulky car to each target. Every vehicle that Tran wants is being driven by its owner, and you need to jack it from them. You can use your ride to block their route, forcing them to stop, and making the carjacking less likely to involve damage to the target.
  • All damage done to the target counts against the value of the car! This means damage you cause, as well as damage the owner causes. Be careful when setting up each heist. An Action Hijack, for example, is not the best way to handle these missions, as there’s a good chance you’ll end up ploughing into things while Wei takes over the car.
  • These missions aren’t timed, so there’s no need to rush each delivery. Driving dangerously can lead to accidents and reduced value to the car. The more expensive a vehicle is, the faster its value plummets after serious impacts.
  • Make sure the police aren’t around to witness the carjacking! If the HKPD gets involved, damage to the target is almost inevitable.
  • Use the listing of targets in the guide to help place yourself near every target’s general starting location before calling up Tran. It just makes things a bit easier.
  • If you feel the target has taken too much damage, just drive it into the ocean and try again.
  • Completing all of Tran’s Car Deliveries nets you an extra HK $20000. Every little bit helps!

Debt Collection

Roland Ho is a money lender and debt collector connected to the Sun On Yee. The business is, as Uncle Po puts it, quite lucrative. People always tend to spend more money than they actually can safely afford to, and many of those people borrow money to pay off their debts. Most of the time, they keep up with their payments just fine.

Sometimes, you have to ask more than once. Sometimes this might involve a personal visit to the person late on payments. Maybe it involves cars. Maybe it involves freerunning through a city neighborhood. Whatever it does involve, Roland Ho has had to ask more than once for these clients to pay off their debts, and now Wei is being sent to ensure payment. There are five important debts that Roland wants Wei to handle, plus an additional side job that can be handled at any time you just happen to see the opportunity.

Including the work done for Roland during the “Uncle Po” Main Story mission, there are six Debt Collection jobs.

Knox Armored Vans

Knox is a company that handles money transfers between banks and businesses, and they happen to be in debt. They have refused to pay, so Roland wants to hit them where it hurts: their delivery vans. He wants you to take any that you see on the street and bring them to him. Any time a van is in your general vicinity, it will be marked on the mini-map. You can then Action Hijack the van and drive it to the designated garage for a cash reward. There is no limit to how many vans you can capture, so if you’re hurting for cash for any reason, this can help.

1. Collection: Samson Gao

Samson can be found on an overpass in North Point. The confrontation is non-violent, but instead of paying up, Samson chooses to flee on foot. He’s a surprisingly quick freerunner and leads you on a winding chase, but eventually he gives up after an exciting series of jumps and vaults, and you catch him atop the overpass. Samson immediately relinquishes payment and runs away.

2. Collection: Norbert Yang

Norbert owns a massage parlour at the center of Kennedy Town, but is refusing to cough up the money he owes despite his successful business. When you arrive there to collect payment, Norbert refuses to budge. He’s got police protection, and says that you can’t touch him without getting into serious trouble with the law. Technically, he’s right.

The solution to this is to find Norbert some customers. The nearby alley is full of vagrants you can offer a cheap bribe to. With them in tow, go back to the massage parlour and watch the vagrants be themselves. Norbert immediately succumbs in hopes of getting rid of his new patrons.

3. Collection: Terrence

Buying cars instead of paying off Roland, Terrence has landed himself in some seriously hot water. He doesn’t make things easier on himself by being a terrible liar when you confront him. Throw him into the trunk of his own car, and then get driving. You’ll need to be at or approaching top speed for 30 seconds straight to scare him into paying. However, don’t alert the cops during this!

After you speed for 30 seconds, you can pull Terrence from the trunk to get the payment.

4. Collection: Tommy Wu

This collection is a bit more involved than the previous two. Tommy Wu is not only in debt to the Triad, but he’s also a cop, which makes enforcing the payment a bit more difficult. However, there are still weaknesses to take advantage of, such as his wife, Hua Hua. Go to the hospital in Central and throw her into the trunk of your car. Be sure not to accidentally kill her, as she’s not one for much punishment.

With Mrs. Wu stuffed into your trunk, drive her to Roland’s assistant, following the winding mountain road towards Kennedy Town. After you reach the assistant, pull Hua Hua out of the car and hand her off to him. Take a picture of the man holding a gun to her head. With the bait successfully created, it’s time to go meet with Tommy in Kennedy Town.

Tommy is initially reluctant to pay, but the text message showing his wife at gunpoint changes his mind.

5. Collection: Samson Sequel

It turns out that our old friend, Samson Gao, did not learn his lesson. He’s managed to get further into debt, and is still avoiding payment. Go pick up Roland from his Impound Lot first, and then drive out to Samson’s location: the park close to the wedding banquet hall.

As you walk up to Samson, he doesn’t even bother to chat, but just starts running. Follow him through the park. Eventually, Samson traps himself on another walkway, caught between both Wei and Roland. Wei tries to talk some sense into Samson, interested only in getting the payment, but Samson has his own solution to his debt woes. In the end, Wei refuses to handle any more collection jobs for Roland.
