The moment you open the door, you see a gunman holding a hostess hostage. It’s possible to save her by shooting him in the head. Shooting her instead costs you 30 Cop points, not a good start if you miss your shot. After dealing with this gunman, two others attack with pistols.
The .50 cal pistol you start with is extremely powerful, capable of dropping enemies in just one or two body shots. Ammo for it is limited, so make what little you have count!
After the top floor is secured, you still have to deal with the much larger and better-armed group on the first floor. They’ve got assault rifles, SMGs, and pistols distributed among them, so you’ll want to take advantage of your superior position on the second floor and snipe them. Leaping down there right away is tantamount to suicide, but if you’re feeling confident in your skills, it is a viable approach to the situation.
If you do intend to muscle your way through a head-on confrontation with these guys, find and eliminate the people with assault rifles first. A full burst from those weapons can shred Wei’s health in seconds. Then, use Action Vaults to move from cover to cover, using the bullet time to get free shots on enemies. We’ll call this the “Manly Action Badass Approach”, and it’s worth trying at least once.
When you finally kill off the first group downstairs, reinforcements pour in from the main entrance. If you’ve charged into the fray downstairs, these three can possibly blindside you and put you down very quickly. Be ready for them. Another three gunmen will try to avenge them shortly afterwards. You may be low on rounds for the .50 cal pistol, so try to scavenge an assault rifle from the dead. After you break the assault, check the front entrance to the club.
It’s another ambush! Civilians caught in the crossfire are mowed down by Big Smile Lee’s men on the other side of the street. Jackie and Wei are pinned down behind parked cars in front of the club. Do what you can to take out the four goons on the other side of the street as quickly as possible, then get ready to repel reinforcements that arrive from the right. The two men in the first car are armed with an assault rifle and a shotgun, and having them start off so close to Wei is bad because they can drop him in seconds.
The shotgunner is especially bad news. A single point-blank shot can kill Wei, even at high health levels, and they know how powerful their weapons are. They will try to close in on Wei to score the kill.
Another group of enemies arrives by vehicle to the left of the club, bringing more assault rifles and shotguns into the mix. Make no mistake, this fight is hard. You must quickly and efficiently eliminate enemies to keep up with the stream of reinforcement cars. If you’re slow to better your odds, movement between pieces of cover becomes almost impossible with so many hostile guns pointed at you.
After surviving the fierce ambush in front of Club Bam Bam, Jackie finally gets a car and begins driving you and Wei out of there. The enemy doesn’t quit just because you’ve left. Swarms of Triad cars and motorcyclists pursue you through the streets of North Point. As always, aim for the tires to put them out of commission the fastest. Your own car can’t take punishment forever, so try to wipe out the enemy as far away from your car as possible.
The chase drags out into the freeways, but eventually Ponytail puts a personal end to your joyride, and you and Jackie are helpless as your car flips over and over. Ponytail tries to finish you off, but runs out of ammo and sprints off. Wei drags himself out of the wreck and pursues Lee’s representative.
Ponytail is as fast and maneuverable as Wei, meaning any small slip up on your part can help him escape. Follow him up the stairs, past a Health Shrine (there’s no time to pick it up now), and avoid the crowds of people whose only purpose seems to be to get in your way. You’ll chase Ponytail through a parking garage, across a rooftop, and through an apartment. Don’t try anything too fancy and stick to a similar route to his. Don’t forget to Action Vault to maintain speed!
Eventually, Ponytail has enough of the whole running thing and whirls on Wei to confront him. Despite his own injuries, Ponytail is a serious opponent for Wei. He can recover from stuns quickly and use counter grabs of his own. Be prepared to escape his grapples with well-timed QTEs. A good way to start any offense against him is to Counter him, and then land a short combo on him. Don’t try to Grab him—he tends to just break free immediately.
After beating Ponytail to a standstill, Wei suffers from Action Hero Inattentiveness Disorder when sirens from nearby cops distract him. Ponytail introduces Wei’s head to a nearby dumpster before running off, leaving Wei to deal with the cops. He is definitely in no condition to manage that, so get running!
The cops start off a distance away, giving you a bit of a head start. Run into the red-lit passage to start the chase, which is thankfully cut short by the appearance of a limousine just beyond the hallway. One of the passengers shouts for Wei to get in.
The limo belongs to Broken Nose Jiang, a Red Pole for the Sun On Yee. She has taken an interest in Wei’s recent activities for the Water Street Gang. A believer in harmony and balance, and peace through bloodshed, she sees Big Smile Lee as a serious threat to the long-term power of the Sun On Yee, as well as her eventual ascension to the position of Chairman. She has a vision, but she cannot stand up to Big Smile Lee alone. Wei agrees to stand with her, as their animosity towards Lee is common enough ground. Bidding her new ally good night, Broken Nose returns to the limo.
