Drive to Club Bam Bam with food buffs at the ready. There’s a nearby ice cream stand you can take advantage of just before going inside, if you’re looking to save some time.
The bouncer at the door gives you some trouble when you try to walk in. Fast Talk your way past him, and enter the club proper. You get a text from Winston letting you know that Benny is in the VIP area, and that you’re to make an example out of him.
Once inside, try to get past the indicated bouncer to reach the VIP lounge. He refuses to allow access, saying you need to either be a VIP or have the company of a hostess. Since you’re not yet allowed off the leash to just destroy the man where he stands, go back to the dance floor and find a hostess.
The one you can talk to, Tiffany, quickly agrees to let Wei into the VIP area. He tries to dig up some information about Benny on the way to the Karaoke room, but isn’t successful. Tiffany wants to sing instead of talk about her boss. She sets you up for a song, and insists that you go for it.
The Karaoke minigame is simple enough to play. To score well, you simply need to keep the arrow on the left side of the pitch bar on top of any notes that stream down the playing field. You need to perform well to pass this part of the mission. There’s only one song available now, but there are multiple songs that can be unlocked over the course of the game. It’s actually worth screwing up some of the notes just to listen to Wei Shen’s voice crack and warble badly off key while he sings for his audience, and the song selection itself only adds to the fun.
Once you finish up with the song, Wei is able to convince Tiffany that he needs a VIP room, and she happily obliges. You now have access to the upper floors. Climb up the stairs beyond the unlocked door.
Tip
After the mission, you’ll receive Tiffany’s phone number on your smartphone. Call her up and set up a date. It counts as one of the favors in the game, and it also unlocks the ability to see on the in-game map where all of the Jade Statues are located.
Item Acquistion
One of the Jade Statues for Sifu is on the counter of the second floor bar. Despite the fairly dark lighting, it’s hard to miss the flashing sculpture. You can snag it before going towards the objective marker on the second floor, or after things get rowdy.
Several of Dogeyes’ people try to stop you before you go farther into the club, but Wei calmly asks for Benny. He offers to help Benny with any problems he may have with Dogeyes, in exchange for his loyalty to Winston. This goes over with the local muscle about as well as a kick to the face, and Benny retreats to his office. Surrounded by the enemy, Wei now has no choice but to cut loose.
This is one of the bigger fights you’ve gotten in so far. Wei is, as usual, outnumbered, and one or two mistakes can be extremely costly. Fortunately, you’ve got a lot of tools at your disposal outside of your hands and feet. Use the tables and the bar itself to bash some heads. Since you’re on the second floor, you can even toss people over the balcony down to the first floor, a day ruiner by any stretch of the imagination. Also scattered throughout the club are numerous items to pick up and use as throwing weapons. Use them to soften up opponents, as well as help Wei build up the Face Meter.
After winning the fight, Wei runs over to Benny’s office door, demanding he come out and discuss business, but a pair of bouncers attack Wei. This is your official introduction to getting grappled from behind. If Wei is surrounded and an enemy grapples him from the back, other enemies in the area will try to get in free shots on Wei, interrupting any attempts to escape the grapple. To deal with this, Strike the bouncer in front of Wei, which momentarily stuns him and allows you a chance to rapidly tap the Counter button to break out of the grapple.
The bouncers here, Grapplers, are not your average braindead thug. Grappling them is risky business unless they are stunned or low on health. They hit hard, and are quite capable of lifting Wei up and body slamming him to the ground, causing heavy damage.
If they get their hands on Wei, they will try to either throw him, or land a powerful punch. In either case, you’re given a chance to escape and Counter their attack with a Quick Time Event (QTE).
If Wei is knocked down, they will try to stomp on him, prompting another QTE to escape further injury. Your best bet when dealing with Grapplers like this is to focus on flurries of fast Strikes, or using combos that stun enemies. As always, be prepared to Counter at a moment’s notice.
Once the two Grapplers on the second floor are down, get down to the first floor and confront more of the security: more Grapplers, Brawlers, and a pair of knife-wielding thugs. This is a rough fight, particularly early in the game when Wei doesn’t have the nastier parts of his arsenal on hand. Do what you can to get rid of at least one of the knife wielders first, then use his weapon to cut the second one down as quickly as possible. If any of the Grapplers get a hold of you, make sure you kick anyone in front of you before trying to break out of the hold.
Use as much of the environment as possible to try and help defend yourself against being surrounded, as well as to help you eliminate enemies. The first floor bar and nearby tables have plenty of space for heads to be bashed against.
And the fight isn’t over yet! With the dance floor clear, Wei needs to check the bathroom for Benny. Sure enough, four more thugs await you inside—one of whom is marked as a leader, with more health than the others. This fight is in a more restrained space, but the smaller number of enemies makes it easier to manage. Stun enemies if you can, and go for environmental takedowns.
Tip
If you slam three goons head first into the toilets, you can get the “Strike Gold” achievement/trophy.
After the fight, Benny’s escape attempt is cut short by a boot to the head. Wei offers him protection against Dogeyes so long as he remains loyal to Winston. This seems to be enough to calm Benny for now. With this, Club Bam Bam is officially territory for the Water Street Gang once more.
Checking In
Raymond texts Wei as soon as the incident in the Club is settled. It’s time for an in-person checkup on the undercover agent. The meeting does not go smoothly. Raymond’s concerns for Wei’s mental health are rebuffed, and the insistence that he is a cop just like Raymond only further infuriates him. It’s clear that the situation within the Sun On Yee is about to explode at any moment, but Wei may not last long enough to see it all go down.
In the morning, after Wei wakes up in his apartment, he gets a very terse text message from Winston: Report to the restaurant.
The Snitch
Winston, Ming, and Conroy are already in the kitchen, waiting for Wei. It seems that Popstar’s sudden arrest has finally pushed the limits of Wei’s credibility. Ming believes that they’ve found a rat. Held at gunpoint and with seconds to spare his life, Wei uses information he knows about Ming’s previous dealings to try and survive. Ming betrayed Winston once for Dogeyes, and now he stands to control the entire ketamine racket with Popstar gone. He’s still dealing, but who is the new supplier?
The reasoning is good enough for Winston, who apparently dislikes Ming much, much more than he suspects Wei’s actual loyalties. Justice is swift and final for Ming. Winston stalks off with a warning: Loyalty first. If Wei gets in to business just for himself, he’ll end up like Ming—an open mind pouring knowledge all over the kitchen floor.
Back at the apartment, Wei gets a text message from Jackie Ma. There is some good news from all this; his Uncle Tran now trusts you to do some work for him, and he becomes a contact in your smartphone.
Note
Tran’s Carjacking jobs are a good way to make a quick dollar. Call Tran up, and he will text you with the sort of car he wants brought in, and where it can be found. From there, go to the new location marked on your map.
Note
More importantly, you have Tiffany’s phone number. Call her up immediately and complete her Favor, “Tiffany’s Song”, so you are able to pinpoint the locations of all the remaining Jade Statues in the game. You’ll want to get those Melee Training Upgrades as early as possible.
Now that things have settled down somewhat, Wei has two new assignments waiting for him.
