Sleeping Dogs Guide › Walkthrough › Main Story Walkthrough

Night Market Chase

Winston needs Wei as an enforcer, and the target this time is Dirty Ming, who has flipped sides to join with Dogeyes’ crew, selling drugs to make a tidy profit all the while abusing the protection Winston provided. Winston wants Wei to set Ming straight by beating some loyalty back into him.

This mission involves a foot race to chase down Ming, and a pair of set piece fist fights against some persistent thugs. Make sure you’re good to go on energy-regenerating food, and buy another energy drink if your current buff is wearing out. This is your final mission before being set loose in all of Hong Kong. After this, you’ll have a lot more than just the Night Market to explore.

Mission Unlocks: Stick Up and Delivery (Main Story), Popstar (Case One)

Job and Minigame Unlocks: Cockfighting (Minigame)

Favor Unlocks: Pay Hospital Bills, Fashion Advice, Ting’s T-Shirt, Cheaters Never Prosper, A Quiet Drive

Rewards: 270 DX Motorcycle, CI Report on Sam “Dogeyes” Lin, North Point Apartment

Once you leave Mrs. Chu’s restaurant, go back into the Night Market. A yellow indicator will pop up on your HUD, telling you where you need to go to next: the DVD vendor. He lets you know that he saw Ming just a few minutes before you arrived. Follow the nav point to confront Ming.

It’s a short conversation, as Ming knows what you’re there for. He bolts right away and the chase is on. As with all chases, try to stick as close to the target as possible, and make sure you’re spot on with your Action Vaults over obstacles. Avoid hurting civilians as best as you can during the chase. Ming will try to climb up walls and make crazy jumps in an effort to escape Wei.

Ming eventually leads you to an apparent dead end, where a group of Dogeyes’ thugs await. After beating all but one thug into submission, the last one holds his arms up in surrender. Grab him and throw him into the nearby dumpster. Continue to give chase to Ming by climbing up the dumpster, and then up a series of storage lockers to reach the roof of the building. Ming then sics a large group of thugs on you.

There are a lot of environmental hazards to take advantage of, so don’t hesitate to do so. Air conditioning units, dust vents, glass on the rooftop—all of it can take out a goon right away. Ming stands off to the side, shouting encouragement to his men, but declining an invitation to dance for the moment.

With no one left to defend him, Ming actually steps up. He’s not a complete joke, and comes armed with a knife. This will force you to change your entire strategy. As a rule, any enemy wielding a weapon cannot be Grappled. They will often just shrug it off, and at worst they’ll also hit you with their weapon in the process. Let Ming come to you, concentrate on Countering his attacks, and then open up on him. Any time you knock him to the ground, make sure you throw in some extra kicks while he’s lying there, and don’t try to pick him up!

After winning the fight, a cutscene begins. Wei insists that Dirty Ming remembers where his loyalties should lie before he knocks Ming out. Police arrive on the scene of the fight, and Wei is arrested.

At the station, Inspector Teng tries to convince Wei to make a deal, not knowing who she is dealing with. Superintendent Pendrew arrives, informing Teng of Wei’s actual status, much to both of their chagrin. Wei is released under orders to be more discreet. The mission is completed.
