Sleeping Dogs eGuide Essentials How to Play

Welcome to Hong Kong

Welcome to Hong Kong

Sleeping Dogs follows Wei Shen, a new undercover officer for the Hong Kong Police Department, as he attempts to bring down one of the most powerful Triads, the Sun On Yee. In order to gain the trust of the Triad, Wei will be forced to get his hands dirty, while still serving as an officer of the law.

The content of Sleeping Dogs is divided into many different categories. Every activity available serves to flesh out the dark underbelly Hong Kong, and the men and women who try to enforce the law. More importantly, it all serves to help the player build upon Wei Shen’s abilities and allow him to fight harder and survive longer in the course of his mission.

Missions

A total of thirty missions make up the primary story-related content of the game. These missions focus entirely on Wei Shen’s infiltration of the Sun On Yee, as well as the friends and acquaintances he makes and is ultimately out to betray. The walkthrough focuses on these missions and how to accomplish them, as well as any special items you can pick up during the course of these missions to make life easier for you. Over the course of the main missions, other side missions open up across other categories and will be pointed out in the walkthrough.

Cases

After establishing himself within the Triad, Wei Shen will be able to start taking up side assignments with the HKPD, helping the undercover officer find some inner peace throughout the story. There are four cases to resolve that open up throughout the game, oftentimes connected directly or indirectly to the Main Story missions and characters you’ve met along the way.

Jobs

There are thirty jobs that open up after different story events. These range from Car Delivery to Debt Collection.

Favors

As you travel through Hong Kong, Wei Shen will be flagged down by members of the Triad or average citizens who will ask for help. You will also be able to use your smartphone to set up dates with some ladies he’s met along the way. There are thirty-five favors to do for these side characters.

Events

Twenty-eight dynamic events are found throughout Hong Kong, including armored truck heists and footraces against muggers.

Races

As you progress deeper into the main story, seventeen street races involving cars and motorcycles, divided into three racing classes, become available. One of the four cases requires you to be a relatively experienced driver in these races. More importantly, you’re able to make a decent chunk of money by winning these races.

Hidden Items

Strewn throughout Hong Kong are a variety of special items: Lock Boxes filled with cash, Health Shrines to increase Wei Shen’s life pool, Jade Statues once owned by a master martial artist, and Spy Cameras to hack. In addition, there are several secret vendors who sell you special items for your safehouses. Our maps will show you where every single one of these items is located in the city, along with screenshots displaying their exact locations.

Minigames

While not necessarily a group of missions by themselves, there are a variety of minigames to play throughout Sleeping Dogs. Hacking, Safecracking, and Lock Picking minigames are often part of the story, but there are other diversions, such as Karaoke, Poker Mahjong, and Cockfighting.
