Far Cry 4 eGuide Multiplayer

Online Game Modes

Far Cry 4 features several modes of online play, divided into distinct sections. The main campaign offers co-op action. Battles of Kyrat and the Session Browser offer 5 vs. 5 online matches. If you delve into the Map Browser, you can download dozens (and eventually hundreds, maybe even thousands) of user-created single-player add-on maps in four flavors: Outpost takeovers, Extraction, Hunt, and Assault (although you may not see every mode if you didn’t pre-order). Finally, if you still want more after all of this, the Map Editor offers a robust level-creation tool that enables you to edit your downloaded maps or create your own from scratch.

Battles of Kyrat

Battles of Kyrat is a 5-vs.-5 multiplayer mode in which the Golden Path faces off against a group of occult hunters called the Rakshasa (no relation to the bronze bird-demon from the campaign).

Your goals and abilities will differ depending upon which faction you happen to be at any given moment. However, the radio tower is always critical to success. If the tower’s radio is turned on, it will broadcast the positions of every Rakshasa hunter—even those in cloaked “prowling” mode—to the Golden Path soldiers’ mini-maps. If the tower’s radio is turned off, the Rakshasa will not appear on the mini-maps even if they’re not cloaked. It’s a big deal.

Outpost

Outpost matches resemble a traditional Domination or King of the Hill match. The Golden Path occupies an outpost. The Rakshasa want to take it over, which they accomplish by standing near the outpost’s flag. But the Golden Path would prefer to keep the outpost for themselves, so they shoot the Rakshasa. Things escalate.

Demon Mask

One Demon Mask at a time spawns on the map, and the two sides compete to see who can carry it back to safety (if you’re the Golden Path) or to its destruction (if you’re the Rakshasa). In an added twist, the player carrying the mask actually takes on the physical appearance, but thankfully not the crude weaponry, of a demon.

Propaganda

In a propaganda match, the Golden Path attempts to set bombs on three different propaganda-producing locations on the map and defend those bombs until they detonate. Conversely, the Rakshasa, fight to protect the propaganda sites by killing the Golden Path attackers and defusing any bombs they manage to set. Can’t they all just get along, you ask? No. No, they cannot.
