Use the Stage Builder to create new and unique battlegrounds for a customized Smash experience. You’ll find plenty of options to explore, so grab your Nintendo Wii U GamePad and start building!
When you create a new stage, you must start by choosing three basic elements:
- Size: Set the size of your stage. You can choose between small, medium, and large.
- Background: Set the background for your stage. The Stage Builder offers five visually distinct backgrounds.
- Music: Set the background music for your stage. You have plenty of options, so pick the track that works for you.
Once you’ve chosen your basic settings, use the Wii U GamePad to create platforms and access the available menus. You can create custom shapes by drawing on the GamePad’s Touch Screen with the stylus, or simply tap two points to create a straight line between them. When two ends of one or more lines meet, the indicated shape becomes a stationary platform. You can even use the available tools to place pre-made elements wherever you like.
Use the on-screen commands to control the camera or hide the display for a better look at your workspace. Press the + button on the GamePad to open the Help menu. This provides simple descriptions of various Stage Builder menus and features.
Use the available tools to add elements like hazards and moving platforms, erase created objects, or change the texture of existing platforms. The “weight” bar at the bottom of the screen grows as you add elements to the stage. If you fill the bar, you won’t be able to add new elements without first erasing part of your creation.
You can even use the GamePad Touch Screen to determine whether or not certain edges can be grabbed. Tap a specific edge with the stylus to change this setting.
It can be helpful to test your stage as you incorporate new elements. Select this option on the GamePad to practice against a CPU opponent. You can then adjust elements that didn’t work out quite as you might have hoped. When you’re satisfied, save your stage for use in various game modes!
