Group Overview
Use the “Group” menu to play a variety of cooperative and competitive games—all you need is an extra controller and a nearby friend!
Group Menu
The “Group” menu contains four selections, each of which is a modified version of an existing Solo game mode:
- Classic: Work together to win the day!
- Events: Clear the given challenges to win rewards! (Strict “no-items” policy.)
- All-Star: Take on all of the fighters chronologically. No continues allowed!
- Stadium: Defeat an army, destroy targets, hit a home run…and beat your high scores!
Classic (Group)
Group Classic works much the same way as Solo Classic. You and your partner must win a series of matches to face off against some combination of Master Hand, Crazy Hand, and Master Core. In Group Classic, Master Shadow always copies the fighter used by Player 1, Master Fortress never appears, and your enemies will always have more HP during the final battle. Employ the same basic strategies you’d use in Solo Classic. Watch each other’s backs, and work together to claim victory!
In Group Classic, you’ll have all the same options found in the Solo offering. You and your partner can select characters—including any custom sets you might have created—spend gold to adjust the intensity level, and move your figurines around the battlefield to choose your preferred opponents. Keep in mind that your figurines are linked. Struggling against your partner’s movements will make it difficult to select a battle. So, work together!
For each battle, you and your partner each receive two stock lives. Work together to win the match before the 5-minute time limit runs out. Keep each other out of danger to help ensure your victory.
Clearing Group Classic will unlock the primary trophies of your respective fighters. Any rewards you and your partner earned along the way will also be added to your collection.
As an added bonus for clearing Group Classic, you and your partner can both attack the staff credits! Be careful, though—attacking your partner with strikes or items will hinder your progress.
Events (Group)
The game offers a selection of cooperative Group Events. You and a friend can work together to clear challenging scenarios at various difficulty levels.
Complete Events with your partner to unlock new scenarios, and meet special objectives to earn valuable rewards. As in the game’s Solo Events, you’ll find some paths can only be unlocked after specific characters are added to your roster. Like Solo Events, Group Events each offer easy, normal, and hard difficulty levels.
Event Details
The game contains a total of 24 Group Events connected by a series of branching paths.

All-Star (Group)
Group All-Star works in much the same way as the single-player version. You and your friend must battle through a series of matches as you face every fighter on your roster. Work together to keep each other safe as you KO each of your enemies. As with the Solo offering, the true Group All-Star only becomes available after you’ve unlocked all of the game’s characters.
Cooperation is the key to success; the game ends if either of you suffer a KO or a self-destruct. The rest area recovery items are meant to be shared, and keeping your team healthy should be a priority. Communicate with your partner to determine if and when each item should be used. Battle your way to victory to unlock your respective fighters’ secondary trophies and trigger the staff credits!
