Bows

Lara’s default bow, the Recurve Bow, can single-handedly carry her through the entire game. It’s perfectly balanced, and when fully upgraded it nearly matches the Heart of the Eagle and Atlatl Bows’ stats, both of which are earned much later in the game. The Viper Bite Bow is superior stats-wise, and the only one with a special added effect, but it’s only available in New Game+.

To truly unlock the full potential of the bow in both stealth and run-and-gun scenarios, grab the Raposa’s Threat and Howler’s Troops Skills. Fear and lure arrows can be used on armored enemies while maintaining stealth. With all of those Skills unlocked, the bow becomes the most versatile and powerful weapon type available.

Pistols

Pistols are a stylistic choice compared to more powerful weapon types, but they can be upgraded with suppressors to maintain stealth, and the Serpent’s Glint Skill enables pistols to fire flare rounds, which ignite a target and blind all other enemies within close proximity. Not the most efficient combat approach, but it certainly can look cool!

Rifles

Whether used for sniping or laying down a hailstorm of bullets, rifles come in a variety of flavors. For gun aficionados, slow-firing rifles and shotguns can be paired with a rapid-fire pistol or vice versa to cover all the bases. In a pinch, the PN-TF 267 can decimate enemies, but it tears through Lara’s limited ammo capacity (even when fully upgraded) fairly quickly.

Shotguns

Shotguns don’t unlock until roughly midway through the game. They’re most effective at close range, which tends to be relevant most commonly toward the end of the game during forced-combat encounters where stealth isn’t an option.

Melee

Lara’s climbing axes are also used as melee weapons, should the occasion arise. Meleeing enemies has a chance to knock them down, allowing for a takedown. Note that Lara is vulnerable during melee and takedowns, so it’s not the best approach when there are multiple well-armed enemies closing in. Melee weapons cannot be upgraded.

Climbing Axe

Acquisition: Story: Obtained upon reaching the plane fuselage in the Peruvian Jungle.

Description: A sturdy mountaineering axe.

Knives

Knives are primarily used to cut ropes and harvest resources from animal corpses, but Lara also uses them for stealth kills. The quality of the knife has no impact on stealth kills.

Note that you always get the Reinforced Knife before the Finely Crafted Knife, regardless of the order in which you complete the side mission and purchase the Knife Upgrade from the Paititi Merchant.

Makeshift Knife

Acquisition: Story: Dislodge from the plane wreckage in the Peruvian Jungle, then upgrade it at the Base Camp.

Description: A handy improvised blade used to cut rope and stealthily take down enemies.

Reinforced Knife

Acquisition: Sold by a Paititi Merchant (2900g) OR Complete the “Collateral Damage - Stay of Execution” side mission in Paititi.

Description: Used to cut rope and stealthily attack enemies. Can cut through braided ropes. Lara receives more resources from harvested animals.

Finely Crafted Knife

Acquisition: Sold by a Paititi Merchant (2900g) OR Complete the “Collateral Damage - Stay of Execution” side mission in Paititi.
