You have one main objective in the battle against the Mad Doctor’s Claw: Fill up the red eye in the center of the Claw with Paint or Thinner. Lights on the sides of the red eye show your progress as you spray the Claw. The ring platform that you stand on rotates periodically during the fight, so you’ll have to run and leap over pits while dodging the Claw’s attacks.
The Claw’s first attack employs a smashing maneuver. You can identify the attack when the Claw backs off and yellow stars glow around it. Also, when you see a red dot on the ground, it marks where the Claw will come crashing down.
When you see the stars forming around the Claw, move to the side so that it misses you. Spray the Claw after its smash attack temporarily stuns it. Don’t forget to use your sketches to stun or distract the Claw.
Oswald can also shock the Claw from time to time to provide Mickey another opportunity to spray the eye inside the Claw. Paint in the giant cupcakes seats to provide shelter against attacks; some of the broken cupcakes provide booster powerups.
Beware of the Claw’s second attack: a purple lightning burst. The Claw will back off to charge the lightning, and then it will shoot a burst down towards where you are standing. Keep moving while the Claw charges, and jump before the lightning hits the ground to avoid it.
While the fight goes on, the platform rotates around through the Paint and Thinner walls on the sides. Run away from these walls if you get close to them or you’ll take damage. Oswald can slow down the platform when it begins to spin too fast by zapping the consoles on the ends.
The final Claw attack relies on an overhead grab. The Claw hovers over you for a few seconds and then descends to pick you up. Move out of the way as it drops to avoid the damage.
As you spray the Claw with either Paint or Thinner, the light bars on the Claw fill up, and green or blue rings appear down the length of the claw. Once two bars have been filled, the Claw thrashes around and smashes into one of the walls. After this, the fight resumes with the ring platform spinning faster. Continue the fight as before until you fill up all four bars.
When you finish painting in the Claw, the Mad Doctor retreats. The tamed Claw reaches down and offers Mickey and Oswald a ride down into the Thinner whirlpool. You fall down to another arena to battle the Mad Doctor.
If you defeated the Claw using Thinner, the Claw instead knocks Mickey and Oswald into the whirlpool after the Mad Doctor descends through his escape hatch. Using the Thinner path skips the first part of the Spider fight and the subsequent race up the pipe platform.
DEFEATING THE THIRD BOSS
For the next battle, the Mad Doctor rides a large metal Spider, and a circle of spinning Tiki Masks guards him. Half of the masks start out thinned out, and you can either paint in the thinned-out masks or thin out the remaining ones. This directly affects the difficulty of the path up to the next arena.
There are several obstacles in your way to victory. The Spider sprays Thinner at you constantly throughout the fight. Falling rocks pepper the ground during the fight, but they leave you powerups if you manage to avoid them.
When the Spider backs up to the edge of the circular platform, it performs a running lap around the outside of the platform. To avoid being trampled, move to the center when the Spider does this move.
The pink tiles on the edges of the platform can be thinned out by the Spider’s main attack, so try to avoid standing on them. As you take damage, be sure to grab any powerups dropped by the falling rocks.
As usual, your sketches act as useful distractions in this boss fight. In particular, an Anvil dropped on top of the Spider will knock it down for a few seconds, allowing you to paint in or thin out the masks.
When you paint in or thin out the masks, the Spider drops to the ground and an Access Port appears next to the Guardian cell. If Oswald reprograms it, you release the Guardians and they seek out the Mad Doctor’s Spider for some vengeance.
While the Mad Doctor has his hands full with the Guardians, the platform tiles rise up and form a staircase to the next level.
Climb the stairs and start making your way up the raised pipe walkway above the Thinner.
After retrieving the Disney Snow Globe, continue up the walkway toward the second level. Avoid the big punching gloves that smash down on each of the circular platforms.
OPTIONAL QUEST
WATCH THE SKIES
While running up the pipe walkway to the second level of the Spider boss arena, veer off to the side platform to pick up the Disney Snow Globe.
The Mad Doctor returns in his Spider machine when you reach the next level of the arena. Some of the masks are thinned out again, and the fight goes pretty much the same as before.
If you used Thinner on the Claw, you start out on this phase of the Spider boss fight. The Spider relies on the same attacks as the Paint version, though. Either way, you will need to paint in or thin out the masks once again.
Remember to avoid the charge attack that the Spider does around the edges.
Thinnable pink tiles line the outside of the second arena. Be extra careful because the Spider’s Thinner spray can take the ground out from under you if you stand on these tiles for too long.
Keep painting/thinning in the masks when you get a chance, especially if Oswald helps you out with a shock attack to stun the Spider.
Once you finish the masks, the Access Port for the Guardian cell emerges again. Oswald should rush over to release the Guardians and defeat the Mad Doctor’s Spider.
The second wave of Guardians overwhelms the Mad Doctor’s Spider and pushes it over the edge toward the lake of Thinner below. Oswald rushes to save the Mad Doctor, but it seems to be too late and they start to fall. If you used Paint to defeat him, Mickey sprays the Mad Doctor with Paint to redeem him, and the Mad Doctor saves the day by using a rocket pack to jet them all to safety.
After they land safely, the Guardians swarm around the Mad Doctor and make him a Toon again. He has learned the error of his ways and vows to use his power to help others from now on.
If you used the Thinner method to defeat the Mad Doctor, he tries to pull Oswald into the Thinner as he falls, and Mickey douses the Mad Doctor with Thinner. This distracts the Mad Doc, and Oswald releases more Thinner Guardians who swarm the Mad Doctor, sending him to his doom while rescuing Mickey and Oswald.
