EXPLORING AUTOTOPIA
LEVEL OVERVIEW
Investigations of the construction site in Ventureland lead to the nearby area of Autotopia. This area used to be where the citizens of Wasteland would go to watch races, but it has been sealed off and has fallen into ruin. Several large towers in Autotopia appear to be siphoning Guardians out of the ground. These towers must be shut down to stop the villain trying to take over Wasteland.

Autotopia consists of three large Guardian Siphon that are siphoning the Guardians from the ground. You can disable each of these towers on the Paint path by having Mickey stand on pressure plates while Oswald reprograms the revealed access ports. For the Thinner method, thin out cars to get parts to block the towers’ vacuum vents and cause the access ports to overload.
OPTIONAL QUEST
FINDING THE HIDDEN HEROES
Look for a hidden Mickey symbol on the road just inside the entrance to Autotopia.
The first Guardian Siphon has one control panel. For the Paint path, stand on a pressure plate on the inner ring of the tower. With the pressure plate depressed, Oswald can reprogram the access ports in the exposed panel.
When you close in, the tower starts spewing out Thinner in a rotating fountain. If you choose to stand on the pressure plate, jump over the Thinner as it approaches you.
To follow the Thinner path, thin out the cars around each Guardian Siphon, which causes their engines to pop out.
Drag the engines over to the vacuum vents around each tower; the engines block the vents. Once you block each vent, it causes an explosion in one of the access ports. Block every vent in the area to disable the towers.
After you take care of the first tower, head over to the trees near the starting projector. Oswald can give Mickey a boost to the top of the trees. Thin the light green trees you land on to reveal a ledge.
Bronze Pin
When you disable a tower using the Paint method, it discharges a Bronze Pin.
Each time you disable a tower, the Thinner wall that blocks the passage to the next area turns off. Follow the road into the tunnel that leads to the second major area.
OPTIONAL QUESTS
THE ENCYCLOPAEDIA WASTELANDICA
Discover a Picture Spot on the ledge under the thinned-out trees next to the starting projector.
FIND THE HIDDEN HEROES
Thin out the billboard on the wall behind the Guardian Siphon to find a hidden Oswald symbol.
Surprisingly, Blotworx Rockers fill Autotopia. You can stop to deal with them or just ignore them and run past in most areas. If you do take down a Rocker, consider using Paint so that they can watch your back after you befriend them.
Continue down the tunnel and turn right into the passage. Several pools inside have geysers that spew Thinner into the air. Jump past these Thinner pools when they calm down. You can also paint over them, but the eruptions will thin the cover off again quickly.
A machine at the end of the passage opens the Thinner wall into the next area (and closes off the first area. One hero pulls the handle while the other uses a Spin Attack to spin the gear and activate the switch.
Leave the tunnel and enter the newly opened passage. Head down the road of the second area until it breaks off.
Several Blotworx Rockers and Dropwings patrol this area. Again, if you use Paint while fighting them, your defeated foes will convert to your side and help battle against the remaining enemies.
OPTIONAL QUEST
FINDING THE HIDDEN HEROES
A hidden Mickey symbol sits in a sewer pipe below the highway in the second tower area.
Scan for a small cave to the right of the Guardian Siphon. Hop across the junk floating in the Thinner to reach the cave.
OPTIONAL QUEST
WATCH THE SKIES
You can find the Goofy Race Car inside the cave to the right of the second Guardian Siphon.
Bronze Pin
After Oswald reprograms both access ports on the second tower, you receive another Bronze Pin.
Deactivate the second tower using the pressure plates again. This tower has two pressure plates and access ports, so it takes more time for Oswald to reprogram and disable the tower.
With the second Guardian Siphon shut down, the Thinner wall turns off and opens up another tunnel.
Follow the tunnel until you reach the passage on the left side, right before another Thinner wall.
To activate the second machine, Mickey and Oswald must both pull back the nearby handles at the same time and keep them held back for a few seconds until the Thinner starts pumping into the empty tank.
OPTIONAL QUEST
FINDING THE HIDDEN HEROES
Check for a hidden Mickey symbol on the wall just inside the side passage of the second tunnel.
You find the garage in the next area. You can open the large garage door easily by thinning out the control box on the right side and having Oswald reprogram the console. This will cause some damage that costs you Scrap Metal to repair if you restore the race track in the second visit. The alternative is to spin the large wheel in front of the door and push the slider below into the tumblers to pick the lock.
Mad Doctor’s Shoes
A blue chest inside the locked garage contains the shoes from Oswald’s Mad Doctor Costume.
OPTIONAL QUEST
OPERATION GREMLIN DROP
Free the trapped Gremlin Stuffus inside the garage.
Scale the small rock platforms opposite the garage and head up the curved slope to the third Guardian Siphon. Dropwings and a Blotworx Shocker scour the area. The Shocker zooms around the pressure plates and can present a problem, though you may be able to get by without fighting it.
The cave to the right of the third Guardian Siphon holds a golden Cloth.
OPTIONAL QUEST
THE ENCYCLOPAEDIA WASTELANDICA
There’s a Picture Spot inside the cave to the right of the third Guardian Siphon.
The final Guardian Siphon has three access ports to reprogram. Three pressure plates sit in the Thinner moat around the tower. To defeat it, knock its mask off and then wait for it to attack and jump on the head.
Bronze Pin
After you disable the final Guardian Siphon using the pressure plates, you receive another Bronze Pin.
OPTIONAL QUESTS
FINDING THE HIDDEN HEROES
Shutting down the last tower causes an explosion on the rocks blocking a cave along the back wall. The cave contains a hidden Oswald symbol on the wall.
Drop down the hole in the cave to a final tunnel connecting back to the first area.
A CAPTAIN’S LIFE FOR ME
If you backtrack past some of the cars in the last tunnel, you see a red chest that contains the Pearl of Wisdom. The Pearl of Wisdom can be traded to Tiki Sam in Ventureland for the Giant Pearl.
Turn around and continue down the tunnel until you get to the Thinner wall. Yet again, a machine on the wall manipulates the Thinner walls. If Mickey and Oswald hit the gears at the same time, the Thinner wall ahead disappears.
When you return to the first area after having disabled all the Guardian Siphons, Oswald activates the first tower and releases the trapped Guardians. After they are freed, the Guardians restore the area.
Gold Pin
Once the Guardians restore Autotopia, you can climb up on the water spouts to retrieve the Gold Pin.
When the Guardians are released, the top of the tower blows open to reveal a projector. Jump up along the walkways around the tower until you get to the top. When you are ready to leave, take the Mad Doctor’s World of Evil projector to get a better idea of what’s been going on.
OPTIONAL QUEST
REBUILDING AUTOTOPIA (VISIT 2)
When you return to Autotopia for a second visit, a former racer named Gilda asks you to help rebuild Autotopia’s racetrack. You have to open up the garage and rescue Gremlin Stuffus, and then collect what he needs to rebuild the track.
Stuffus can make a car if you find some spare parts for him. You can then race the car on the track. To find parts, hit the trunks of the toon cars scattered around Autotopia.
If you used the Paint path in the first visit to Autotopia, you can race in time trials against Gilda once the racetrack is repaired. You have to pay some E-tickets to race, but if you beat the time, you win extra E-tickets based on how quickly you finished.
If you used the Thinner path to destroy the towers in the first visit to Autotopia, the race becomes a demolition derby. During the derby race, you must smash various objects on the track to collect Scrap Metal.
Aggressive Driver Pin (visit 2)
If you beat the time on the demolition derby race, you win the Aggressive Driver Pin.
Pedal to the Metal Pin (visit 2)
If you finish the time trial race successfully, you gain the Pedal to the Metal Pin.
OPTIONAL QUESTS
THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES (VISIT 2)
You can take a picture of the garage for the Thanks for the Memories quest.
A FRIEND IN DEED (VISIT 2)
The hardest picture to take for A Friend in Deed quest happens in Autotopia. Snap a picture of Gilda riding in her race car.
