Be sure to speak with all the folks on the street and the shopkeepers to catch up on the latest news and pick up all the optional quests. Gremlin Jamface hints that there’s something sinister going on and that you should seek out Prescott in OsTown. When you arrive in Mean Street North, Gremlin Jamface greets you at the entrance. He’s convinced the projectors broke before the quakes and that foul play may be the cause. After you experience Mean Street North, you must find the D.E.C. entrance and take that to OsTown to speak with Prescott about the projectors.
Silver Pin
Your first collectible in Mean Street North is a Silver Pin. Paint in the full ledge to the right of the entrance and jump over to it for your reward from the red chest.
Jamface leaves to work on the Windmill on the other side of town. After letting you know what’s up, Jamface teleports to the Windmill on the other side of town. You’ll need to find 50 pieces of Scrap Metal to help him fix it, but there’s always another way... For now, paint the thinned out path to get up to the main part of town.
When you reach the freshly painted first walkway section, turn right. You’ll spot a red chest on a ledge that’s too far away to jump to—unless you paint the thinned-out ledge section closest to the walkway. With the whole ledge restored, you easily get over to the red chest and get a Silver Pin.
Continue painting the walkway and climbing up to the top. You’ll meet Gremlin Sparks on a plateau before the last jump. He’s out looking for spare parts to help with Mean Street’s cleanup.
When you reach the main street, you have lots of choices. To your left are the Camera Shop, Ice Cream Shop, and Penny Arcade. To your right are the Pin Trader and Cinema. There are also many resources and hidden rewards scattered around town, so explore everything carefully.
Visit the Camera Shop first so that you can pick up the camera. The camera allows you to take pictures and fill up the photo album in the shop. Also, if you take pictures at the official Picture Spots (marked by the camera signs around Wasteland) and return those pictures to Adelle, the Camera Shop owner, you’ll earn some extra rewards.
OPTIONAL QUEST
THE ENCYCLOPAEDIA WASTELANDICA
To complete this optional quest, you need to take pictures at all the Picture Spots in Episode 1, Episode 2, and Episode 3. Read the nearby signs for hints about the pictures needed, then use the camera to find and take the correct photo.
Golden Cloth
Skirt the edge of the Camera Shop until you can see behind the building. A Golden Cloth floats there and, if you’re careful, you can reach it without falling off the edge.
Before you visit all the shops in town, look for the construction tunnels on the southeast end of town. If you want to take the quicker Thinner path, then spray wooden planks to the right of the Pin Trader with Thinner to open a hole inside the building. Ignore the quaking that occurs when you do this—the passage is safe—but don’t ignore the Scrap Metal that shakes loose. You can trade in the Scrap Metal for pins later at the Pin Trader, and you’ll need 50 pieces of Scrap Metal to pay Jamface to open the Windmill later.
Head into the construction tunnels. Look for a small side passage on the right; it leads up to a resource chest. Thin the wooden planks farther down the tunnel and continue until you reach the outside again. Beware; if you keep using Thinner here you’ll do permanent damage to Mean Streets North; but you’ll also get a chest full of goodies and get to the entrance to the D.E.C. quicker.
Scrap Metal
Collect as much Scrap Metal as you can from around construction sites and damaged areas around Wasteland. In Mean Street North, you need to pay Jamface in Scrap Metal to fix the Windmill and open that entrance to the D.E.C.. In the Pin Trader shop, you can trade Scrap Metal for Generic Pins and increase your pin-buying power.
When you get to this side of Mean Street North, to your right is a wooden fence. Carefully skirt this fence to reach an isolated ledge with extra resources for you. To your left lies a small gap that you can double-jump or glide across. Make the leap safely and speak with the Purple Gremlin on the other side.
Speak with the Purple Gremlin in front of the locked D.E.C. door. He offers to open the door for you if you pay him 100 E-tickets. If you want the quick way in, take him up on his offer. If you want to save yourself 100 E-tickets, you’ll need fireworks.
Use the brick pile to jump up to the sunken depression above it. From the depression, you can jump up again to reach the main level, which holds a fireworks shed.
Pull open the shed door, grab the fireworks, and drag them back down to the D.E.C. door. Don’t go too fast when jumping into the depression or onto the brick pile. If you let go of the fireworks, they may roll over the edge and you’ll have to return to the shed for another one.
Push the fireworks against the door and have Oswald use his Electricity to set off the explosion. The door opens and you have access to the D.E.C. entrance. However, you have more to do in Mean Street North; you’ll return here later.
Once you have the D.E.C. door open, head back up to the main street and enter the Pin Trader. Becca will sell you any pin she has on the shelves, and she will accept Scrap Metal for pins and Generic Pins for Scrap Metal. For two or four Generic Pins, you can buy a Black Bag with a random pin in it. For 20 pieces of Scrap Metal, you can earn a Bronze Pin; for 60 pieces of Scrap Metal, you can purchase a Silver Pin; for 100 pieces of Scrap Metal, you can get a Gold Pin. If you trade in one Generic Pin, Becca will give you ten pieces of Scrap Metal; three Generic Pins nets you 30 pieces of Scrap Metal, and five Generic Pins gets you 50 pieces of Scrap Metal.
Becca also carries four unique pins: The Big Bad Pete Pin for six Generic Pins, the Ortensia Pin for two Generic Pins, the Oswald the Lucky Rabbit Pin for six Generic Pins, and the Lockbreaker Pin for two Generic Pins. Both the Big Bad Pete Pin and the Oswald the Lucky Rabbit Pin count toward unlocking your first spirit in the Spirit of Wasteland quest, so think about which spirit you want to unlock and buy the corresponding pin.
Next, go visit Paulie in the Ice Cream Parlor. He’s having a slew of bad luck. The air conditioner broke and his ice cream is melting. He’ll give you 25 pieces of Scrap Metal if you go up on the roof and fix it for him. Before you leave, take advantage and buy the rare Melting Ice Cream. Give it to Laralee in the Museum on Mean Street South for a big E-ticket reward!
Exit the shop and stand in front of the building. Spray a gush of Thinner above the door and create a landing that you can use to hop up on the roof.
Up on the roof, Mickey needs to needs to paint in the pipe on the back side of the air conditioner to get it working again. Once that’s operational, Oswald needs to use Electricity on the control panel to get it started. Return to Paulie for your Scrap Metal reward.

OPTIONAL QUEST
THE OTHER SIDE OF THE SCREEN
Your mission is retrieve unique pins that Flynn can use to repair his arcade machines. You’ll find these pins at the end of difficult battles, such as the boss battle against the Blotworx Dragon at the end of Episode 1.
Walk up the street a few steps to find the Penny Arcade on the same side as the Ice Cream Shop. Enter and speak with Gremlin Flynn. He gives you “The Other Side of the Screen” optional quest and asks you to help repair his arcade machines. Flynn needs two pins to fix each arcade game, and he explains that some of these pins can be found after big animatronic battles, such as those you’ll run into later in the game.
Concept Art 3
The first piece of Concept Art that you find is hidden out of sight at the back corner of the Penny Arcade. Hop over the crates to scoop it up.
Walk around to the back of the Penny Arcade for some surprises. Jump up on the stack of crates and look down. You’ll spot Concept Art 3 floating near the corner. Slide off the crates and retrieve it carefully.
While you’re out on the ledge with Concept Art 3, continue exploring. Walk farther out until you can look down and spy a metal platform below. Stand over this platform and drop down.
If you look around the corner, you’ll faintly make out an thinned ledge. Paint the thinned ledge and jump over to it.
Oswald should zap the control panel next to the steel door on the ledge. This opens the door and grants you access to the Underground. With more to do in Mean Street North, we’ll return to the Underground later.
Cross the street and visit the Cinema. The Usher explains that the movies aren’t running because the power shut off. If you can restore power, he’ll give you 25 pieces of Scrap Metal for your effort.
Concept Art 30
Once you have the Windmill fixed up, you can use the Windmill door to access the D.E.C. entrance. The Concept Art 30 extra content sits in the doorway the first time you access the Windmill.
OPTIONAL QUEST
CREATIVE THREEDOM
You meet Fifer in the Cinema, and he asks you to find the two other Little Pigs. Practical is somewhere in OsTown, and Fiddler went to Fort Wasteland. Earn your reward once you reunite them at the Pig Family Treehouse in Ventureland.
Leave the Cinema and head into the alley. Thin the alley wall so that you can reach the rooftop. Jump up on the roof and find the Control panel in the back corner. After Oswald juices up the panel with his Electricity, return to the Usher and claim your Scrap Metal reward.
Now that you have enough Scrap Metal, speak with Gremlin Jamface in front of the Walt Disney statue. Pay him the 50 pieces of Scrap Metal to fix the Windmill.
Head over to the Windmill after Jamface fixes it up. You can now use the Windmill door to drop to the D.E.C. entrance. As an added bonus for opening the Windmill door, you gain Concept Art 30.
The projectors are shut off now, but when they’re active, you can access them from the area around the Walt Disney statue. Note that if you didn’t talk to the Spirit of Wasteland in the museum, you can speak with him in front of the Walt statue for his optional quest.
If you want a balloon ride back to Mean Street South, speak with the Purple Gremlin in the southeast part of town. It’ll cost you some E-tickets, but it’s certainly a time-saver.
