Rainbow Caverns

EXPLORING RAINBOW CAVERNS

LEVEL OVERVIEW

Rainbow Caverns is split into two paths that are close in distance but different in theme. A worn statue of a beautiful angel wielding a sword overlooks the majestic Angel Side of the Caverns. To navigate this path, you must either cross a painted sword suspended high above an abyss, or traverse an array of pillars. The Devil Side of the Caverns has no chasms to worry about, but you will have a maze of lava blocking your path to the exit.

You start out on the Angel Side of the Caverns, which stands high above the Devil Side. There is a direct route straight up the Angel’s sword, but going around the outside lets you fetch all the collectibles, even if it is more difficult.

A large Angel statue overlooks the area and serves as the main landmark; look back to that point if you get lost at any point during the level. The Angel holds a sword that can be raised by having Oswald stand on one of the buttons on either end of the sword.

An Ink Well near the start provides Invisible Ink if you wish to use a stealthy approach or Indelible Ink for a more direct method.

There is a pair of Sweepers on each side of the Angel’s sword on raised platforms. You can attack them from a distance with Paint or Thinner but remember they have a ranged attack as well. An easy way to deal with them is to quickly jump to their platforms and spin attack them off the edge.

OPTIONAL QUEST

THE ENCYCLOPAEDIA WASTELANDICA

Look for a Picture Spot on the right Sweeper platform behind the Ink Well. Snap a picture of the Angel statue to get credit for this quest.

Paint in the thinned-out pillar on the right and hop over to it. You’re now in the middle of a lineof raised pillars leading from a ledge under the Angel statue down to a cave in the depths below.

Head down the pillars to the right. There is a Sweeper on a ledge near the wall.

Jump over to the ledge and knock the Sweeper off his perch. The wall here can be thinned out.

Uncover the golden Cloth inside the thinned-out cave behind the Sweeper.

Head back out to the raised pillars. A bit farther down the wall is another secret cave that you can use Thinner to open.

Now turn around and start jumping up the pillars. Head back up toward the large ledge under the Angel statue. Paint in any thinned-out pillars as you ascend.

Angels Dancing Pin

The secret cave to the right of the Sweeper platform has a red chest with the Angels Dancing Pin.

Silver Pin

Once you find the red chest In the back of the cave under the Angel statue, you earn another Silver Pin.

At the top of the large cliff, watch out for the open cave with a pair of Sweepers inside. Attack the Sweepers at range without getting too close to the edge and falling off, or you can get in close and continually spin attack them until you knock them off the cliff.

Back outside the cave, you can see the projector on an isolated pillar nearby. However, there is still one more task to complete on this side of the Caverns before you can leave. Have Oswald stand on the large button on the ground to raise the Angel’s sword.

Paint in the sword and jump over to the platforms with the Sweepers to knock them into the abyss.

Paint in any sections of the sword if needed and leap back onto the sword. On one of the platforms you’ll find the Silly Symphony Fan. Grab it for the “Watch the Skies” quest.

You now have a few choices when you get back to the Angel Side exit.. You can use Oswald to hover to the start of the Devil Side of the Caverns for a couple more collectibles and the Fall from Grace challenge (waypoint #8), or you can hover straight to the Devil Side exit to earn just the challenge (waypoint #12). If you would like to continue straight on, take the projector here to Disney Gulch.

Optional Quest

WATCH THE SKIES

The Sweeper platform to the side of the Angel sword is home to the Silly Symphony Fan quest item.

Your Conscience Be Your Guide

PlayStation 3 Trophy: Bronze

Xbox 360 Gamer Points: 20

Beating the Rainbow Caverns level unlocks this challenge.

If you want to clear both sides of the Caverns, head back down the sword to the Angel Side entrance. Stand near the sword button, and use Oswald to glide all the way down to the entrance of the Devil Side of the Caverns.

The Devil Side of Rainbow Caverns starts out near an Ink Well. A maze made out of lava stands before you. If you want to take the easy path, turn the Ink Well into indelible by thinning out all the toon objects around the well. You can then walk through the lava walls to the red chest in the center. (waypoint #11). The wrench near the chest deactivates the maze.

Fall from Grace

Playstation 3 Trophy: Bronze

Xbox 360 Gamer Points: 20

By starting on the Angel Side of the Caverns and gliding down to the Devil Side, you complete the Fall from Grace challenge when you exit the area.

Bronze Pin

There is a red chest on the ledge to the left of the entrance to the maze. Open it for a Bronze Pin.

To the left of the maze entrance, Oswald can toss Mickey up to a secret ledge.

Once Mickey gets to the ledge, thin out the yellow crystals to access the red chest.

Optional Quest

THE ENCYCLOPAEDIA WASTELANDICA

The ledge with the red chest also has a Photo Spot.

The maze is formed by a series of machines that rain lave down to the ground below. There are wrenches on the ground that can be turned to rotate the lava walls. Go to the wrench surrounded by three lava walls near the start and turn it until the right lava wall is gone.

Removing the right lava wall opens up a new passage. Follow the passage, turning left at the corner and on until the next dead-end.

Be on your guard for a Blotworx Blocker, a slow but dangerous foe. The Blocker has a button on its head that must be jumped on to expose the pilot, but they can cast a shield at times that prevents you from hitting them. When the shield drops, pounce on the button and spray the Spatter pilot inside.

When you reach the next lava wall, there is a wrench in front of it. Turn the wrench until the forward lava wall is gone.

This allows you to move just one more tile, where another wrench awaits.

Turn the next wrench until you can pass the wall to the left.

When this passage opens up, it appears to be another dead-end. There seems to be just a river of lava ahead, but move forward to investigate.

Look for the large thinned-out pipe next to the lava wave. If you paint in the missing section, it curves into the lava and causes the lava to flow over the pipe, creating an opening to a secret cave.

Silver Pin

The cave created by painting in the pipe next to the lava wave contains a red chest with a Silver Pin within.

Go back into the maze and follow the path back to the beginning. Turn the Ink Well into Indelible Ink by thinning out any toon in the area.

A-Maze-Ing Pin

Open up the red chest in the center of the maze to find the A-Maze-Ing Pin.

Dip yourself in the gold ink and go for a nice walk through the lava maze unscathed. If you go in a straight line from the Ink Well toward the middle of the maze, you will find a red chest.

Walk over to the wrench to the left of the red chest and grab onto it.

The wrench will deactivate the maze if you turn it. If you missed anything, you can go back and get it easily now.

Jump up to the round platform and take care of the last Blotworx Blocker.

Twist the last wrench and the Devil face on the wall will open its mouth, revealing a hidden cave.

Jump up into the cave mouth to find an entrance to the D.E.C.. This fourth version of the D.E.C. takes you to Disney Gulch.
