Disney Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two eGuide Walkthrough Episode 1

Mean Street

MEAN STREET SOUTH

LEVEL OVERVIEW

Your train ride out of Dark Beauty Castle brings you to the Mean Street South station. Much has changed from your last visit to Mean Street—some new businesses have moved in, but the quakes have literally ripped Mean Street in half and you can’t walk from the south side to the north side any longer. There are many hidden treasures in town, lots of NPCs to speak with, and a few quests to get you into the adventuring mood.

  • Recover the hidden chests and Golden Cloths about town
  • Visit all the stores and speak with each vendor
  • Discover the special sewer grate that leads to the Mean Street Underground

Mean Street isn’t how you left it. Quakes have rocked the town and literally split it in half: Mean Street South and Mean Street North. To reach the second half of town, you need to find the exit to the underground, but first it’s time to explore a bit.

Speak with the Train Conductor at the train station window. He explains that the Mean Street train station has ceased operations. The quakes have knocked the station clock out of whack and they can’t schedule any arrivals or departures correctly. He hints, though, that you can buy the Watch Sketch at the Emporium, and then use the sketch’s slow-time ability to get past the broken fan and fix it from the inside. When you have 250 tickets, stop by the Emporium, buy the Watch sketch, and finish up “The Wasteland Limited” quest.

Walk over to the opposite corner of the train station from the Conductor and use Thinner to remove the wall. Hidden inside the corner is a blue chest. Have Oswald shock the control panel to gain a Bronze Pin.

Bronze Pin

Thin the corner of the train station on the far side from the station manager. Because it’s a blue chest, Oswald will have to use Electricity to open it and earn the Bronze Pin.

Now thin the ramp leading to the train station to reveal a secret passage under the station.

OPTIONAL QUEST

THE WASTELAND LIMITED

You pick up this optional quest by speaking with the Train Conductor at the train station window. To complete the quest, buy the Watch Sketch at the Emporium and return to the train station. Slow down time so you can throw Oswald up to the tower to fix the clock.

The underground corridor forks in two. If you follow the fork to the right, the passage leads out to a hidden garden behind the train station.

You can gain some extra resources out there, and if you paint the wall to the right of the rubble pile, you’ll reveal a telephone box for a future quest.

If you follow the fork to the left, the passage leads to a thinned-out mining cart next to a machine. Mickey can paint the cart to make it substantial, and Oswald can channel Electricity into the machine’s control panel to activate it. To destroy the wall, though, you’ll need fireworks, which you don’t have access to yet. Leave this little puzzle for later.

Back out front by the ramp, look for Seth wandering around in the street. He explains that you should photograph the many hidden silhouettes of Mickey and Oswald to complete the “Finding the Hidden Heroes” quest. You can pick up a camera in the Camera Shop in Mean Street North.

OPTIONAL QUEST

FINDING THE HIDDEN HEROES

Once you have the camera (found in Mean Street North), you can begin this optional quest given out by Seth on Mean Street South. Take pictures of landmarks that looks like Mickey or Oswald. There are ten Mickey landmarks and seven Oswald landmarks in Episode 1 to track down. If you photograph more landmarks of one hero, Seth will create a garden in that character’s image.

You can check out the Observatory on the eastern side of Mean Street South, nearest the train station. Gremlin Copernicus runs the Observatory, and he will pay you for certain rare items, so return here with them when you find them.

Go visit the Courthouse across the street from the Observatory. Big Bad Pete doesn’t have much to say other than a few taunts for you, but you see a Silver Pin in the middle jail cell.

Silver Pin

When you enter the Courthouse, you’ll see the Silver Pin locked up in the middle cell. You can’t reach it from the inside. You have to go up on the roof, Thin a new entrance into the cell from above, and drop into the cell to retrieve it. However, this permanently destroys the courthouse roof and influences the Guardian pool toward a Thinner state.

To retrieve the pin, you need to reach the roof. Double-jump or glide up on the overhang above the Courthouse door, then do the same to reach the roof. Make a short detour around the back of the roof to snag a piece of Golden Cloth.

Return to the main section of the roof and look for the tan oval area. Spray that area with Thinner to open a secret access point into the Courthouse. Use the access point to drop into the cell and retrieve the Silver Pin. When Pete notices you in the cell, he tosses you back out onto the street.

Golden Cloth

You’ll find your first swatch of Golden Cloth on the back of the Courthouse roof. Carefully circle around a ledge that leads to a secret area out of sight behind the tower area. Scooping up the Golden Cloth is the equivalent of picking up 100 normal pieces of cloth. You can also sell cloth in the Haberdasher’s shop—one cloth for five E-tickets—so finding a piece of Golden Cloth is like earning 500 E-tickets!

Cross the street to the Wasteland Museum. Laralee greets you at the door and laments the loss of many of her museum objects because of the frequent quakes. She presents you with the “One Toon’s Trash” quest and offers to pay you for any unique items you find around Wasteland that would make good museum pieces. Sell five to complete the quest.

If you head to the far side of the museum, you’ll speak with the Spirit of Wasteland. Twelve qualities have been split from the Spirit and are linked to rare pins in Wasteland. Collecting the pins (the amount varies per Spirit) will awaken the spirits and grant extra abilities to Mickey and Oswald. Heritage and Individualism are the spirits closest to awakening. Because you can only collect certain pins based on your actions while completing “The Spirit of Wasteland” quest, think about which abilities you would like and seek out those pins.

The northwest side of town hosts the Emporium. You can buy many useful items here, including permanent health upgrades for Mickey and Oswald (350 E-tickets apiece), Hero Maps to show you where hidden heroes are located in various places, and the super-valuable Watch Sketch that you need to complete “The Wasteland Limited” quest. Save up your E-tickets to buy the Watch Sketch first, then return when you have enough tickets to purchase the health upgrades for Mickey and Oswald.

OPTIONAL QUEST

ONE TOON’S TRASH

Laralee in the museum offers you the “One Toon’s Trash” optional quest. Sell any five unique items you find in Wasteland to Laralee. Not a bad deal for leftover items you don’t want to keep. But consider this; these are the same items wanted by the Gremlin in the Observatory... what to do?
It’s your choice!

The alley west of the Emporium leads to a secluded area with the trash compactor. Thin the right corner as you approach the rocky steps to discover more golden Cloth.

The rocky steps can also be thinned. Search around under the steps for more resources on the ground.

Silver Pin

You can find this Silver Pin on the ledge above the trash compactor atop the Emporium building. Paint the thinned-out chest so you can open it to get the Silver Pin.

Explore the trash compactor area and then climb up to the Emporium roof. A thinned-out chest hides up top. Paint it to receive a Silver Pin.

From the Emporium roof, you can look down and see your next target: the Mad Hatter, a shop owned by the Haberdasher.

THE SPIRIT OF WASTELAND QUEST

Enter the Mad Hatter shop and talk to the Haberdasher. He’s a bit mad, but he does manage to tell you that the fuse box needs repairing or the shop can’t run. You’ll want to fix it so you can keep the costume shop open for business.

Threadbare Pin

Look for the Threadbare Pin hidden inside the Mad Hatter’s giant hat. Jump up on the roof above the Mad Hatter’s door and thin the hat. You’ll reveal a blue chest, which Oswald must zap open for the pin.

Exit the Mad Hatter shop and jump up on the roof above the door. Thin the large top hat to discover a blue chest within. Once Oswald zaps the control panel, you gain the Threadbare Pin.

To complete the Thinner path above the Haberdasher’s shop, jump to the ledge left of the Threadbare Pin and thin out the pipe under the air conditioner along the back wall. The air conditioner collapses, leaving a hole you can jump through to gain the red chest in the fan room; however, the Haberdasher will be upset with you and charge double for purchases in his shop.

Walk around the building and past the Detective Agency. You’ll find Gus near the manhole entrance to the Underground. Leave that for now and grab the stacks of crates behind Gus. Pull the crates until they act as a jumping platform beneath the grate and the wall. Double-jump up on the crates, then double-jump again to reach the building section with the fuse box. Alternatively, Oswald can throw Mickey up toward the higher building section. Mickey must then double-jump in midair over to the fuse-box.

Mickey should paint in the fuse box, and Oswald should charge the control panel with Electricity. This starts up the fan and gives power back to the Haberdasher’s shop.

If you want the red chest behind the fan, which contains a Silver Pin, thin out the two fan blades and jump through when you spot the thinned gap.

Silver Pin

After you fix the Fuse Box, thin out the two fan blades and leap through when the gap appears. Open the red chest for another Silver Pin.

Hat Pin

Once you activate the fuse box atop the building and get the Mad Hatter shop operational again, the Haberdasher gives you the Hat Pin. As an added bonus, you can now shop for costume pieces.

Return to the Mad Hatter shop. Now that the power is back on, the Haberdasher rewards you with the Hat Pin, and you can shop for costume pieces. Collect three pieces and then use the Changing Room to change into the costume. These costumes give benefits, but you can only wear one at a time.

You can gain yet another Golden Cloth above the Detective Agency. Thin out the walls so you have a platform to jump onto. Slide the stack of crates over in front of the Detective Agency door and double-jump up to retrieve another 100 pieces of cloth.

Speak with your old buddy Horace in the Detective Agency. Times are quiet now, but you’ll be able to check back with him later for some quests.

The waterway in the center of town is actually a guardian pool. If you use enough Paint or Thinner in town, the water will transform into the corresponding guardian pool for you.

Once you have the Watch Sketch from the Emporium, return to the train station. Point up at the clock tower and activate the Watch sketch to slow down time. Toss Oswald up to the tower, and he’ll use his Electricity to start up the clock once again and complete “The Wasteland Limited” objective in Mean Street. Speak with the Train Conductor, who hints that you should also fix the train stations in OsTown, Bog Easy, and Ventureland to complete the quest.

When you are ready to depart Mean Street South, head over to the manhole cover by the Detective Agency and hit the Action Button to enter the Underground. This will take you to the second half of Mean Street.
