Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag eGuide Freedom Cry DLC Memories

Memory 5: Lifting the Veil

Optional Objectives
  • Liberate slaves from the slave barracks.
  • Kill the overseer who led the slaves

Having liberated 150 slaves and the slave ship, head back to Port-au-Prince. Make your way to Bastienne’s brothel and speak with her to initiate Memory 5.

Port-au-Prince

Bastienne is in need of information from one of her “regulars,” but he’s not willing to talk with her. That’s not enough to dissuade her, which is where Adewale comes in.

Your job will be to enter the Port-au-Prince governor’s property dressed in a slave’s rags and get information about what he’s been up to lately. Follow Bastienne to the governor’s manor. At the entrance is a line of the governor’s personal slaves. Join them and blend in by staying close to the man in front of you.

Follow the other slaves until you reach the waypoint, then drop off your box and follow them back to the slave barracks. When you arrive at the barracks, head over to the spire of light to blend in until nightfall.

Graveyard Shift

Nightfall makes for an easier time of sneaking around undetected, which is good because getting caught will lead to mission failure if a guard rings one of the bells directly in front of the manor. Don’t worry about those though; no one will know you were here until after you’re gone.

Up ahead is a guard patrolling near the slave barracks. Wait for him to turn away from you, then chase him down and knock him out. Stand directly over his body and pick him up, then throw him into the nearby bushes to keep any wandering guards from finding it.

Now face southwest toward the entrance of the compound and turn on your eagle vision. The man standing on the main road leading out of the manor glowing gold is the overseer who lead the slaves. Your job is to take him out if you want to accomplish the second optional objective.

Getting to him is actually pretty simple. Just wait for him to stop his chat with the other overseer and move onto the grassy area in the southwest corner of the compound. As soon as he’s off the main road, charge straight after him and take him down.

Take his body and throw it into the bushes near the west corner of the wall.

Face southeast and run up the wagon in front of the small wall ahead. Swing from the rod pointing out of the compound wall and jump into the bushes.

Take down the guard starting in front of the bushes on your left.

Continue southeast along the compound walls until you reach the wall with the overseer guarding it on your left. On the other side of the wall is another overseer who is in desperate need of dying. Whistle from the edge of the bushes to get their attention and then retire them.

Climb up the manor wall onto the balcony above and make your way to the left window to listen in on the governor’s conversation.

Once he’s finished the first part of his conversation, he breaks from it and heads down to the first floor of his home. Make your way over the roof of his house and knock out the guards standing in front of the stairs. Make sure to take out the guard who’s patrolling the hiding spot marked by the waypoint to avoid any additional problems, then jump into the hiding spot.

Enter the bushes just below where the governor and his guest are standing and follow them by jumping from bush to bush as they walk around the deck. If you took out the guard who was patrolling around the original hiding spot then you’ll have nothing to worry about if you just jump from bush to bush and stay close to the deck the governor is walking on.

Once the conversation ends you can leave either by heading to a hole on top of the wall in the southern corner of the compound or you can make your way back to the slave barracks if you want to get the other Optional Objective.

Overtime

Don’t climb any buildings to get to the slave barracks. Instead, goy by foot to the path leading into the barracks. Discretion is absolutely necessary when taking out the overseers. If any of them spot you, they’ll immediately begin killing the slaves before trying to kill you.

Hug the fence where it curves and whistle to draw the attention of the guard. As soon as he reacts to your whistle, immediately jump into the bushes behind you and wait for him to investigate.

Climb the fence right next to you and head onto the slave barracks

Head to the left corner of the building and air assassinate the guard closest to the compound walls.

Now finish off the last guard and the slaves will run free and safe, taking care of your last Optional Objective.

Move to the southern corner of the compound and climb over the hole in the wall’s lining to escape.

MEMORY END

Return to Bastienne’s brothel to start Memory 6.
