Memory 2: A Common Enemy

Optional Objectives
  • None Available

The Good Samaritan

Adewale wakes up on the shores of Port-au-Prince to the sounds of a woman screaming. She’s being pursued by a man who very clearly means her harm. Time is an important factor here, so without delay, chase after the man and woman. Equip your rope darts, if they aren’t already equipped, and throw one at him, holding down the Tool button (Y for Xbox, Triangle for PlayStation, or F for PC) to pull him in. When he’s in close, introduce him to your assassin’s blades.

Achievement Unlocked

Saving the young woman lands you the “Liberation Day” for freeing your first slave.

My Hell Away from Home

Your next task is to track down a “gentleman” somewhere in Port-au-Prince. Before we get started, there are a few things to note about this small but lively town. This is a slaver town, where the practice of owning and selling slaves is alive and all too well. In Freedom Cry, instead of rescuing pirates, Adewale must free slaves. You will see a lot of icons popping up for various activities that provide opportunities to liberate slaves, but hold off going for those for now and continue onward to your next objective.

Just Can’t Wait

If you’re eager to start freeing the slaves of the West-Indies you can hop over to the “Animus Patch Notes” section of this guide to get detailed information about the activities involved in freeing them and the rewards that come with doing so.

Heading to the Big House

There are men called jailers whose job it is to locate runaway slaves. They will find a spot to plant themselves on a road or in a crowded area and watch. Around them on the minimap is a yellow circle that represents their line of sight. If you enter it, they’ll gladly attempt to apprehend you, so keep your eyes on your minimap to avoid alerting them.

Back to Business

Head south into the city while staying on the road you are currently on. Kill or avoid the jailer ahead of you and continue up the road.

Continue moving along the path until you reach the stack of boxes and barrels leaning up against a house on your left. At this point, turn on your eagle vision and slowly make your way past the boxes, looking left around the corner of the house.

Just past the fence, you’ll find a “gentleman” who will unknowingly lead you to your next destination.

Following him is pretty effortless; he is a careless man who doesn’t bother keeping an eye out for tails. Just stay behind him while he walks and he’ll lead you right to your objective.

Head inside the brothel that he enters and look to your left on the staircase. A man of seemingly high esteem is conversing with a woman who appears to be the brothel’s resident madam.

Eavesdrop on the conversation without being seen by moving in between the several small groups of patrons and workers whooping it up in brothel. Stay inside the green line to keep up with the conversation.

After the two part ways, approach the madam, whose name is Bastienne Josephe. It turns out that she has an informant working in a local plantation who has some information that would be of use to Adewale, so that’s where you’ll be headed in the next Memory.

MEMORY END

Follow the Bouncing Ball

Follow the waypoint to the southeast corner of town, then continue up the path toward the next waypoint that appears until you reach the gates of the Est-Bourbon plantation.

Est-Bourbon Plantation

Viva la Resistance

Plantations are restricted areas where stealth is absolutely important because getting caught means the guards will begin killing slaves out of fear of a revolt. Aside from the moral implications, rescuing slaves is of great benefit to Adewale on his journey.

You don’t unlock items, weapons, and upgrades in Freedom Cry the same way you do in Black Flag. Crafting is no longer an option, and heading over to a shopkeeper for some top of the line equipment is out of the question. Instead you’ll be given access to new equipment when you visit resistance suppliers. The more slaves you free, the more equipment suppliers will have for you.

One of the better, more efficient ways to liberate slaves is by breaking them out of plantations like Est-Bourbon. But let’s hold off doing that for the moment and try to locate that informant first.

Aiding the Cause

From the entrance of the plantation, work your way up to the highlighted area on you map by heading behind the first house on your left.

Once you reach the stone border of the house, air assassinate or ignore the guard below who is watching over the crops, then jump down into them.

The informant is on the north side of the crop field. Use your eagle vision to scout her out.

After speaking with her, she points you toward the location of the Maroon hideout on the far-east side of the plantation. Continue hopping from bush to bush, avoiding enemies or picking off one at a time until you reach the waypoint, where Memory 3 begins.
