Prologue

The story opens on a stormy, churning sea. Nathan Drake is trying to coax another knot or two of speed from a fishing boat as pursuing craft close the distance from behind. Nathan’s brother Sam Drake desperately clings to the gunwale as towering waves batter the small boat.

Ram the Pursuers!

When the cutscene ends, take control of the vessel. Press R2 to accelerate and use the left control stick to steer. First, try to ram the smaller boats that overtake and circle you. Use the right stick to swivel your camera view around to spot attackers as they approach from the rear, and then veer hard into their hulls as they try to speed past.

Soon a much bigger enemy launcher appears and starts slinging explosive mines into the water around you. Veer away and keep ramming smaller boats until a mine detonates under your boat and knocks Nathan into the briny sea.

Swim Back to the Boat

Once you’re in the water, press to swim toward the surface. Be ready! An enemy boat bears down on you. Quickly press to dive back underwater and dodge the propellers. Press again to resurface, and then swim toward your boat. When you reach the hull, press to climb aboard.

Fight Off the Attackers

Unfortunately, your boat is dead in the water—a sitting duck. Sam starts working on the engine, so your job now is to protect him. Nathan is armed with a New Weapon, the Para .45 pistol. Start shooting gunmen on enemy boats that pull up alongside. To shoot: Hold the L2 trigger to bring up the targeting reticle onscreen (the small white circle), use the right stick to aim (i.e., move the reticle over targets), and press R2 to fire your weapon. Keep shooting foes until Sam announces that the engine is fixed.

Steer Toward the Island

Hustle back into the cabin and press to take the helm again. Accelerate and steer in any direction, veering between rocks. After a few seconds, the burning enemy launch rams your boat broadside, sending Nathan and Sam tumbling into the choppy water…
