Well, I guess this is goodbye.
Back in 2006, when we embarked on what would eventually become Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, our intention was to make a game that made the player feel like they were taking part in a classic adventure tale: breathtaking scenery, narrow escapes, life-or-death gunfights, freewheeling brawls, and a search for lost treasure. But we knew that none of the scenery or set pieces would matter if there weren’t memorable, relatable characters to pull us through the story. We’ve been all over the world with cigar-chomping con man Victor Sullivan, intrepid journalist Elena Fisher, and of course, thrill-seeking treasure hunter Nathan Drake.
Now, ten years and four games later, Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End brings the story of Nathan Drake to its conclusion. We wanted to make sure the series went out on a high note, and to that end, the 300-odd artists, programmers, and designers at Naughty Dog poured their hearts and souls into the creation of this game. Taking some of the lessons we learned from the first three games and The Last of Us, we also added new features such as the 4x4, the grappling hook, and considerably larger levels than ever before. We’ve also added all manner of goodies to find: documents, journal entries, treasures, and more. So it’s a good thing there’s this guide to help you find your way through it all.
It’s a bittersweet time at the studio. We’ve lived with Uncharted for a decade, and though we’re excited to move onto something new, we’re sad to say goodbye to Nathan Drake and his friends, enemies, and frenemies. That said, we’re thrilled with how the game turned out; it’s the biggest, most exciting, most emotional, and most epic (!) Uncharted yet, and we hope you love it as much as we do.
Sic parvis magna!
