Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune
Three of the four main characters on the “good guy team” in Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End—Nathan Drake, Elena Fisher and Victor “Sully” Sullivan—appear in the very opening sequence of Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, the first installment of this award-winning, venerable series. Proclaiming himself a descendent of Sir Francis Drake, Nathan discovers the great explorer’s diary and follows its clues in search of El Dorado, the legendary “City of Gold.” En route, the trio tries to stay a step ahead of cutthroat pirates (the modern-day variety) and ruthless mercenaries as they wander the Amazonian jungle and a tropical Pacific island in search of ancient treasure. As the story ends, Nathan and Elena ride off into a Pacific sunset in Sully’s boat. It looks like the beginning of a beautiful friendship…
Uncharted 2: Among Thieves
This first sequel ultimately reunites Nate, Elena, and Sully, taking them on a treacherous hunt across the Himalayas. The game also introduces a new character to the team: Chloe Frazer, Nathan’s ex-lover and a highly skilled fortune hunter driven by a healthy dose of self-interest. Nathan follows clues from the great traveler Marco Polo in search for the lost city of Shambhala and the fabled Cintamani Stone. Meanwhile, Elena seeks documentary proof that a notorious Serbian war criminal is still at large. Their separate paths bring them together in Nepal. Uncharted 2: Among Thieves received high acclaim and became the consensus Game of the Year in 2009.
Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception
This third installment in the series leads Nathan, Sully, and Elena (who is Nate’s estranged wife here) across the sands of the vast Rub’al Khali desert on the Arabian Peninsula in search of yet another legendary lost city: Ubar, or “Iram of the Pillars.” The story adds a new ally, Charlie Cutter, and uses a notebook from T. E. Lawrence (AKA “Lawrence of Arabia”) to track the route of Sir Francis Drake’s rumored secret voyage to the Middle East. The sojourn first takes Nate to France, Syria, and Yemen, and briefly reunites the team with Chloe Frazer, as well. After surviving a great sinkhole in the finale, Nate (with help from Sully) reconciles with Elena, and they all head home in Sully’s new Grumman Goose seaplane. Note: The game includes a flashback to Nate and Sully’s first meeting, 20 years earlier in Cartagena, Colombia.
