You first need to complete the “Story Mission: Smack” before attempting to wiretap a junction box. Next, you need three TL-49 Fuses; it takes three fuses to wiretap one junction box. There’s usually at least one fuse in the vicinity of each junction box. (Fuses are also revealed in district sectors whose junction box has already been wiretapped.) Next, look for the nearest untapped junction box icon on the map. If you are headed to that district early and its icon is not revealed on the map, use our map to find the junction boxes. Look for a large green utility box attached to a wall in the environment. Walk up to it and press
or
to begin the jimmying mini-game to pry the doors open.
Step 1: Finding The Sweet Spot
Rotate the Left Control Stick until a green highlight bar appears along the white circle covering the junction box. Move the control stick until you achieve the smallest green bar possible, and then press
or
to confirm the sweet spot. The smaller you can make the green sweet spot icon, the easier the next step will be.
Step 2: Prying The Doors Open
Now that a very small green bar (representing the sweet spot) is locked onto the circular white prying indicator, a much larger green bar appears in its place. The smaller the green sweet-spot bar you lock, the larger the pry area in this second step will be, and the slower the prying needle moves, making it easier to execute the break-in.
Now, the very thin white prying needle bounces across the white circle from the right to the left. The smaller the sweet spot you created, the slower this needle moves. Stop the needle in the green bar. The easiest and quickest way to nail this step is to quickly press
or
as soon as it touches the green area, instead of waiting for the needle to reach the green bar’s middle.
Step 3: Wiretap
The third step is an automatic action. Clay takes the fuse and wires it into the junction box, creating a wiretap. After you close the doors, a green light on the fuse appears inside the junction box (seen through a small window), indicating that box has been wiretapped. If you access the Map Menu, you’ll see enemies (if any are near) and collectibles are now revealed on the map in the district’s sector where that junction box is located. There are many junction boxes and fuses scattered throughout New Bordeaux. Find and tap them all to reveal the collectibles on the entire map.
What Wiretaps Reveal
Once you wiretap a sector’s junction box, the in-game map reveals all of the collectibles, shops, Medicine Cabinets, TL-49 Fuses, and other key items and locations in that sector. Donovan marks each “Target of Opportunity” with an icon as well. These targets are the people, goods, and operations that contribute to the racket’s Earn total.
After wiretapping, your Minimap reveals all enemies (red blips) within its radius. In addition, your Intel View reveals all nearby foes (highlighted red)—even through walls and around corners, including those you haven’t yet spotted directly.
Using Wiretaps to Recruit Bosses
Each wiretapped node also reveals sensitive information about the rackets in the district. Lincoln Clay can leverage this information to convince certain bosses (though not all) to work for him when he takes over their rackets. Recruiting experienced bosses increases the Earn of your rackets. Note that without wiretapped info, Lincoln has no choice but to kill racket bosses when he confronts them.
