Occasionally, while looting containers and fallen foes, you’ll find a treasure map. These maps have a simple sketch on them which will point you to a small cache of items: X marks the spot! The difficulty comes in trying to decode these visual riddles. If you pay close attention to the scenery presented in the image, you should be able to figure out where the treasure is located. Once you reach the X, you simply need to use the activate button on the ground where the treasure is hidden to dig it up and make it your own.
Here are a few tips that will make your treasure hunting experience a lot simpler:
- Take in the scenery. We said it before, but it bears repeating. There will be plenty of times where you’ll open up a map and scratch your head at its apparent vagueness. Don’t let that dissuade you! Really comb the image, pay attention to mountains, look at power lines, water towers, anything! There’s always a clue that will lead you to where you need to go.
- Angle your view. If a map shows a particular landmark (Top of the World, for instance) on the left of the X, then make sure you take the same angle. If you’re struggling to line up a landmark in the same way that is shown in the map, you might be in a completely different location than what’s being shown.
- (N), (S), (E), (W). Whenever you see a letter with a circle around it, you’re looking at a compass direction. If the image has an E circled on the left side of the image, while the X is on the right, you can bet that your treasure is somewhere on the west side of the region.
