At the root of the great tree past the Mt. Wildwood Shrine, you’ll find the Crank-a-kai that produced your new buddy Whisper at the game’s beginning. Put in a special coin (see below) and spin the crank to acquire rare Yo-kai friends or special items you’d have trouble finding anywhere else. You can access the Crank-a-kai up to three times per day (in game time) once you reach Chapter 2.
Crank-a-kai Coins
“Crank-a-kai coins” is the generic term for the eight types of colored coins you’ll find in treasure chests and elsewhere, as well as the Special Coins and Excitement Coins you can obtain via passwords. These are the coins you’ll generally use to crank the machine.
The Yo-kai you acquire from the Crank-a-kai depends on the type of coin you use.
Play Coins
You can also use 10 Play Coins to spin the Crank-a-kai. However, the Yo-kai produced won’t be as rare as usual. If you have any Crank-a-kai coins on hand, it’s better to use those first.
You earn Play Coins by walking around while your 3DS is in standby mode.
