While being the slowest operator, the demolitions class is heavily armored and can resist blasts that would kill weaker classes. This class can arm and disarm charges faster than any other class. Plus the tank stance ability helps shield the demolitions soldier from salvos fired by enemies.

Support Actions

If you can tolerate the sluggish speed of this class, you’re in for a real treat, particularly if you like watching things blow up. The demolitions class is not only decked-out in heavy armor, but once the support actions start rolling in, this class can hit hard, armed with weapons like the M32 grenade launcher and SMAW rocket launcher. But before you can score enough points to acquire support actions, you must first master the stock weapons of this class, including the submachine guns, shotguns, and remote charge. While the SMGs offer a high rate of fire, they exhibit heavy recoil, making it difficult to hit targets at intermediate and long ranges. Consider switching the weapon to semi-automatic if you’re having trouble managing the recoil. Shotguns are only effective at extremely close range, so avoid open areas if carrying one. Instead of standard grenades, the demolitions class is equipped with a remote charge, ideal for booby trapping objectives and high-traffic choke points. In addition to carrying a variety of lethal weapons, the demolitions class is your go-to soldier when it comes to arming and disarming charges in Combat Mission and Hotspot. When interacting with a charge, this class can accomplish the arming or disarming process much faster than the other classes. But when focusing on a charge, always deploy the tank stance ability for greater durability.

Class Ability: Tank Stance

If you thought the demolitions class was slow before, just wait until you deploy the tank stance ability. This causes the demolitions class soldier to pull down a ballistics visor over the soldier’s face, limiting visibility and further restricting movement. But the tank stance has a big payoff when it comes to absorbing damage. When deployed, the tank stance greatly increases the survivability of the soldier, effectively blocking incoming bullets and shrapnel. When under fire, the armor takes the brunt of the damage, while health remains intact. However, the armor does deteriorate with each hit, eventually canceling the tank stance. When the armor reaches its breaking point, the soldier’s helmet falls to pieces. Once the armor is destroyed, the tank stance cannot be deployed again. But as long as the armor is intact, the tank stance can be activated and deactivated multiple times. For best results, activate the tank stance when you’re about to engage opponents in a firefight. Otherwise, avoid leaving the tank stance active as it greatly inhibits vision and mobility.

Unique Support Actions

M32

Support Action Points: 400

The M32 grenade launcher is easily one of the most deadly weapons available to any class—and it’s relatively easy to acquire, offered in the first tier of support actions for the class. This semi-automatic grenade launcher is pre-loaded with six high-explosive 40mm rounds. The weapon functions similarly to the grenade launchers of the assaulter class, but the M32 fires rounds with a higher velocity, requiring less compensation for range. This is helped by the weapon’s scope, allowing for quicker and more direct target acquisition. However, when engaging hostiles at long range, you will still need to aim high to compensate for gravity. Once the support action is activated, you can stow the weapon and return to your SMG, but any remaining rounds left in the M32 will be lost, so make sure you expend all six grenades before you stow this weapon. Focus your fire on narrow choke points and other areas where opponents are likely positioned, such as objectives or flags.

SMAW

Support Action Points: 800

The Shoulder-Launched Multipurpose Assault Weapon (SMAW) is a shoulder-fired missile designed to attack fixed positions, such as bunkers. This variant as been fitted with a high-explosive warhead, ideal for engaging infantry. When you activate this support action, the weapon is raised onto the demolitions soldier’s shoulder and prepared to fire. While you can use the reticle on the screen to aim the weapon, it’s better to zoom in, using the weapon’s iron sights. Given the close quarters in which the weapon is most likely deployed, there is no need to aim high with this weapon. Once fired, the rocket travels in a straight line, detonating upon impact with the target. The SMAW has a very large blast radius, ideal for taking out multiple opponents. Instead of aiming directly at an opponent, aim at the ground beneath their feet to help guarantee a kill. The SMAW is also ideal for taking out opponents hiding in buildings. Send a rocket through a window to silence snipers and other opponents posted in overwatch positions. You only get two shots with the SMAW, so make them count.

MUSA Robot

Support Action Points: 1,200

The MUSA Robot is a tracked remote-controlled drone fitted with a coaxial machine gun. Be careful when deploying this support action because you’re extremely vulnerable while controlling the robot. Find a remote area of the map, preferably near your team’s spawn area and hunker down before sending your robot out to do the dirty work. Once activated, the robot deploys from your position and the HUD changes to the drone’s camera view. The robot can be operated using the standard move and fire controls. The MUSA isn’t much faster than a demolitions soldier, so it may take some driving around before you find your first target. For best results, keep the drone near teammates or your fireteam buddy. This robot can take a serious beating, but it isn’t invincible, so avoid driving into a large groups of opponents. If flanked, the MUSA has a tough time rotating to defend itself. Therefore, make an effort to keep the enemy in front of you at all times so you can engage them with the mounted machine gun—fire the machine gun in short bursts to prevent overheating. Otherwise the machine gun can fire with little interruption as it has unlimited ammo. The MUSA’s camera lens becomes cracked as the robot takes heavy damage. Do your best to eliminate the threat or retreat to a safer position to prolong the robot’s life as long as possible. If it can’t be saved, drive the drone directly toward your opponents to inflict as much damage as possible when the robot eventually explodes.
