Company of Heroes 2 Guide › Essentials › Units

Unit Roles

The more you know about your options, the better your choices will be.

Note

Players often refer to production buildings using a “tier” number rather than by name—these have all been listed.

Unit Roles

Each unit’s role is mentioned in its description along with any upgrades or abilities that change its role or allow it to fill another role. These are all discussed in greater detail in the Multiplayer Strategy section under Units and Synergy.

  • Support: Increase the effectiveness of other units (non-upgraded Half-tracks, Engineer/Pioneer, Artillery Field Officer).
  • Mainline: Versatile units that can function independently and in both offensive and defensive capacities (Grenadiers, Conscripts).
  • Assault: Units with high mobility and short range (Panzergrenadiers, Shock Troops, PPSH Conscripts, Scout Cars).
  • Anti-Garrison: Units that can deal high damage to targets garrisoned in buildings (Engineers/Pioneers with Flamethrower, Penal Battalion with Flamethrower, Conscripts with Molotov Cocktails, Panzergrenadiers with Bundled Grenade).
  • Anti-Vehicle: Units with heavy weapons that excel against vehicles (Guards, Panzergrenadiers with Panzerschrecks, Conscripts with AT Grenades, Grenadiers with Panzerfaust).
  • Fire Support: Units that have low mobility and long range (Sniper, Mortar, MG, AT Gun, Elefant).
