The enigmatic Martin Hatch has no past. Where he came from, nobody knows; it’s as if he appeared out of thin air one day. When the time-travelling Paul Serene starts to build Monarch Solutions, he has to do so in secret—he needs a right-hand man, somebody to do what needs to be done that Serene can’t. A public face for the company. Hatch seemed like the perfect candidate—intelligent, analytical, charismatic and intensely loyal. A man whose advice was always delivered with consideration and insight.
Over the years, Hatch has become very close to Serene. He’s a legendary figure within Monarch Solutions—most Monarch employees aren’t even aware of Serene’s existence. Hatch’s authority within the company is unchallenged, and the only person who can overrule him trusts him implicitly. Equally comfortable in a boardroom making billion-dollar decisions and in a dark alleyway ordering the assassination of a key target, Hatch is a man who gets things done. He’s always one step ahead of everybody else.
Even ahead of Paul Serene. Unbeknownst to Serene, Hatch doesn’t share his goals. Hatch knows the End of Time is coming, but where Serene sees an apocalyptic problem to be tackled, Hatch sees an opportunity. His true motives, and true nature, are closely guarded secrets even Serene knows nothing about. Hatch dances to his own rhythm, and humanity’s survival simply isn’t his priority. In the end, he’s the one who ends up in charge of Monarch Solutions.
But for him, that’s not the end game—that’s just a phase in his plans.
Hatch is portrayed by Lance Reddick.
