New Super Mario Bros 2 eGuide The Basics

Location Types

In addition to standard courses, each World has its share of special locations. These distinct areas are easy to spot on the Map Screen, so you’ll always have an idea of what to expect.

Boo House

Boo Houses are maze-like levels filled with false doors, hidden passages, and, of course, plenty of sneaky specters. When you enter a Boo House, be prepared to overcome some very tricky environments.

Tower

Towers are vertical levels located near the center of most Worlds. Unlike most levels, a Tower does not contain a Goal Pole. To complete one of these special levels, you must ascend the Tower and defeat the Reznors in its final chamber.

Castle

You’ll find a Castle at the end of each World’s main path. These special levels can contain a variety of hazards and enemies, but they all end with a special encounter. If you emerge victorious, you’re rewarded with the key to the next World!

Warp Cannon

Warp Cannons are special levels with special rules. Once you enter a Warp Cannon, you can’t control your speed, change direction, or use power-ups. To reach the end of the course, you must time your jumps to avoid patrolling enemies and perilous falls.

These levels contain no Star Coins, but the Red Rings found in these levels reward Gold Flowers. More importantly, however, Warp Cannons allow you to unlock new Worlds.

Rainbow Course

Each World contains a Rainbow Course that only appears when certain conditions are met. Rainbow Courses contain no enemies or Star Coins, but they’re packed with valuable rewards. With giant coins and oversized Roulette Coin Blocks, Rainbow Courses are a great way to build up your Coin Total!

Toad House

Toad Houses are friendly areas that provide power-ups and special challenges. When you need a little extra help, consider stopping by a Toad House!

Toad Houses with red roofs contain a selection of power-ups. Toad Houses with green roofs contain 1-Up Mushroom challenges. Nearly all Toad Houses marked with gold stars contain Gold Flowers.

The Star World Toad House

When you collect every Star Coin and unlock every path in the game, you gain unlimited access to the special Toad House in Star World. When you visit this Toad House, a Super Star is placed in your Stored Item slot!

The Star World Toad House can only be used once just like any other Toad House. However, when you complete Star Castle and beat Dry Bowser, all Toad Houses will resupply and this is when you will gain unlimited access to all Toad Houses.
