Solo Play
During Solo Play, you must guide Mario through his quest to rescue Peach. You’ll overcome numerous challenges as you jump, stomp, smash, and fly through a wide variety of environments. In this Game Mode you must stand alone as you collect Star Coins, unlock new paths, and defeat Bowser.
Co-op Play
During Co-op Play, you and a friend can play together as Mario and Luigi. Your quest is the same, but you’ll find there are some advantages to working with a buddy.
Co-op Play Tips
When you team up with a friend, keep these tips in mind:
- If Mario and Luigi both perform a ground pound at the same time, the impact affects all nearby enemies.
- When a ledge is just out of reach, bounce off of your partner’s head to gain some extra height.
- It’s much harder for a Boo to sneak up on you when a buddy is watching your back.
- There are twice as many power-ups in each level.
Coin Rush
In the Coin Rush Game Mode, you must collect as many coins as possible while you play through three randomly selected levels. These levels are identical to those found in Solo Play and Co-op Play, but all 1-Up Mushrooms are replaced with Gold Mushrooms, and you have much less time to reach the Goal Pole.
Coin Rush Tips
As you gain experience in Coin Rush, you’re sure to develop tactics that suit your personal style of play. Here are some basic tips to help get you started:
- After you beat Bowser in World 6-Castle, You begin each game of Coin Rush with a Gold Flower in your Stored Item slot. When you choose to use it can have a significant effect on the amount of coins you’re able to collect.
- When you collect the 3 Star Coins in a course you will receive 10, 20, and then 50 coins respectively.
- Each Gold Mushroom you collect is worth 50 coins.
- The Gold Mario form doubles your reward for collecting Star Coins and Gold Mushrooms.
- Reach the top of a Goal Pole to double the amount of coins you’ve collected.
- When you activate a Checkpoint Flag, the time limit is extended by 50 or 100 seconds (depending on the level).
- Some levels contain + Clocks. Collect a blue + Clock to extend the time limit by 10 seconds. Collect a green + Clock to earn an extra 50 seconds.
- Make the most of Gold Rings! Stomp a series of enemies, commandeer a Lakitu’s cloud, or throw a Gold Shell into an enclosed space.
- Never pass up a 10-Coin Block.
- When you hit an enemy with a fireball, it drops a single coin.
- Complete all three levels to double the amount of coins you’ve collected.
- Progress through the Solo Play or Co-op Play Game Modes to unlock additional levels for Coin Rush.
