New Super Mario Bros 2 Guide › Special Worlds › Mushroom World

Mushroom-Castle

When the level starts, a giant spiked ball begins destroying the walkway. This hazard moves fairly slowly, but it’s important to keep moving. Each time you stop to collect items or deal with enemies, watch for the flying debris that signals the spiked ball’s approach.

The first Star Coin is at Point 2, just below the walkway. Stand above the Star Coin, then perform a ground pound to smash through the Blocks.

The second Star Coin is located just past the Big Whomp at Point 3. Coax the enemy into attacking, then use a ground pound to defeat it.

When the path is clear, collect the Star Coin near the wall to the right.

The third Star Coin is in a secret area above the door to Larry Koopa’s chamber. If you’ve managed to hang on to a Super Leaf, use it to fly up and grab the Star Coin.

The four stone pillars in Larry Koopa’s chamber emerge in alternating pairs. As you move around the room, try to anticipate when one of these pillars will move into your intended path. Each fireball Larry conjures bounces around the room for a short time. Avoid his attacks, and stomp Larry’s head.

When Larry tucks into his shell, jump to the platforms and wait for him to emerge. When he does, stomp his head again. Repeat the process to stomp Larry a third time and complete the encounter.

Note

If you haven’t already unlocked World Three, completing this level will do so.
