Every level in the Campaign involves some kind of Exo Suit that varies in its purpose and equipped abilities. This information is given to the player at the start of each level.
Exo Types
Two types of Exo Suits are used through nearly the entire Campaign, Assault and Specialist. The Assault type is equipped with Boost Jump and Sonics abilities, while Specialist comes with Riot Shield and Overdrive. You are also always given the Stim ability or an ability that is necessary to get through the level, such as Grapple or Cloak.
Exo Abilities
The following abilities are only available in specific missions. Use them to your advantage, as they can be lifesavers when battles get overwhelming.
Boost Jump
First Level Seen: Induction
Controls: Double-tap the Jump button.
This double jump allows players to reach greater heights with their jump.
EXO Slam
First Level Seen: Induction
Controls: Press the Crouch button in the air.
Jump into the air, and find a target on the ground. Push in his direction, and press the Crouch button to perform a quick slam move that takes the enemy out with a direct hit.
Land Assist
First Level Seen: Induction
Controls: Press Right on the D-pad to activate. Hold the Use button to slow Mitchell’s fall.
This Exo ability allows you to slow your fall, minimizing the impact when you reach the bottom. You are limited in the amount that you can use this ability, so conserve its usage until you approach the floor. The Fuel meter that appears next to the weapon represents this supply.
Overdrive
First Level Seen: Atlas
Controls: Press Up on the D-pad to toggle on and off.
This ability slows down time and heightens perception, giving you an easier time targeting the enemies. This consumes battery somewhat quickly, so use it sparingly. Toggle it on for a tough situation, and immediately toggle it off once things become clear again.
Riot Shield
First Level Seen: Atlas
Controls: Press Down on the D-pad to bring up a shield.
Using this ability brings up a shield from your left arm. Weapons are unusable at this time, but you can move around. This consumes battery, so use the shield sparingly. If you find yourself badly hurt without cover to duck behind, bring up the shield to protect yourself. Be careful if you’re surrounded, though; the shield only protects in front of you. You are able to melee enemies with the shield out.
Cloak
First Level Seen: Bio Lab
Controls: Press Right on the D-pad to enable and disable.
Only available in the Bio Lab level, the Cloak makes the player invisible. As you move, the battery runs down fairly quickly. The faster you move, the quicker it depletes. Standing still slowly recoups it, while uncloaking gets it back in just a few seconds. Use this for short periods while sneaking past an enemy or group of foes.
Grapple
First Level Seen: Utopia
Controls: Press the Tactical Variable Grenade button with the grapple icon present.
Used in only three missions, the Grapple allows the player to attach to a ledge from a great distance and pull himself up to it. This only works on ledges that show the grapple icon when aiming that way.
Gloves
First Level Seen: Traffic
Controls: Hold the Use button next to a climbable wall. Move up the surface with the Left Stick.
These gloves allow the player to scale specific metal walls in the Campaign. When standing next to a climbable surface, a message appears on screen.
Sonics
First Level Seen: Induction
Controls: Press Down on the D-pad.
This ability releases a sonic pulse that stuns enemies as it travels straight ahead. The pulse makes them stagger for a short time, leaving you with a great opportunity to take the hostiles down.
Stim
First Level Seen: Atlas
Controls: Exo Ability D-pad button
With this ability equipped, the player receives a health boost.
