Pistols have excellent handling characteristics, making them quick to switch to and from, and quick to ADS. This makes them ideal backup weapons for close-range combat when you are using a primary like a sniper rifle, the MK14 or EPM3, or even an AR or SMG if you simply want a weapon that you can fast swap to if you run out of ammo mid-fight.
