Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare Signature Series Strategy Guide ATTACHMENTS

Customizing With Attachments

Customize your arsenal to create your perfect weapon. Attachments allow you to modify your weapons in many ways. You can add sights to enhance target acquisition, grips to improve handling, and other specialized attachments to boost your performance in different areas.

In general, you should take attachments that make a weapon feel good to you. However, there are certain attachments that have very noticeable, very strong effects on combat, and the correct attachments on the proper weapon can win gunfights. Experiment and explore. Remember that certain Supply Drop weapons may have fixed attachments, extra allowed attachments, or even blocked attachments!

The following section lists all attachments alphabetically and provides advice for using them effectively. Remember, each attachment takes one point in your Class, but you can gain a third attachment on your primary weapon or a second attachment on your secondary weapon with the Primary and Secondary Gunfighter Wildcards.

Mixing Attachments

Mixing and matching attachments is generally straightforward, but here are a few tips:

Sights are all mutually exclusive.

The Parabolic Mic, Laser Sight, and Tracker all share the same slot.

Advanced Rifling and Suppressor are mutually exclusive.

ACOG scope

Enhanced zoom.

A basic sight that has an enhanced level of zoom compared to the Red Dot Sight, this is a good choice primarily for highly accurate weapons. You need to stay at long range to take full advantage of this sight. If you’re fighting at medium or close range with the ACOG, you’re going to be at a disadvantage against faster sights with a better field of view up close. Fight from long range, and pick off SMG and shotgun users who can’t attack you effectively. You should have an advantage against most AR users, as well.

Note that on snipers, ACOG sights have a significant amount of sway built in. They’re great for snapshots at medium range, but at longer range, you may experience difficulty landing shots with precision.

Advanced Rifling

Increased range.

A simple and powerful modification, this attachment improves the distance at which your weapon deals full damage before it begins to suffer damage falloff. This is a vital attachment for shotguns and very useful for the majority of SMGs, unless you plan to play only at a short range.

It’s difficult to know exactly how much Advanced Rifling benefits you during a match, but from time to time, it’s going to cut the number of shots to kill a target by one. This benefit can win you the fight against an evenly matched opponent. In the case of shotguns, it extends the range at which you can reliably one-shot kill, making this a vital attachment for them.

Akimbo

Hip fire two weapons.

Only available on pistols (the SAC3 SMGs are always akimbo), the Akimbo attachment allows you to dual fist your pistols. This trades off the ability to ADS for improved lethality up close.

Given that pistols are primarily useful as backup weapons at short range if you run out of ammo on your primary, Akimbo is a good attachment for ensuring that you land the last few shots you need to kill an already damaged target. As a backup weapon for sniper rifles, Heavy Weapons, or marksman-style ARs, Akimbo pistols can also help give you a fighting chance against enemies rushing you at short range. They aren’t a guarantee of a win against a dedicated close-combat weapon, but they give you better chances than hipfiring a sniper!

Auto Focus Sight

Sight automatically zooms when aiming down the sights and not moving.

This multi-purpose sight normally functions very similarly to a basic Red Dot. However, if you remain stationary for a moment, the sight automatically zooms in.

This sight is useful for weapons that can function effectively at a distance with good trigger control, but the restriction on remaining stationary is dangerous. You must be positioned exactly where you want to be before you zoom in with the auto focus. If you move even a step, the sight zooms out, and this can spoil your aim. Try to use the zoom when you are behind good cover or in a dark area, so you don’t have to immediately worry about taking fire from every enemy who enters your line of sight. If you can score the first hits (or finish your target), you’re making good use of the auto focus ability.

Ballistic CPU

Reduces sway when aiming through the scope.

Specific to snipers, the Ballistic CPU reduces the idle sway you experience while aiming through the scope. This can improve your ability to land snap shots on targets, and it should be your default attachment for most sniper rifles.

Dual Magazine

Faster reload, and stops loss of magazine ammo on every other speed reload.

A useful attachment, Dual Magazine grants you both faster reloads and saves ammo in your magazines every other speed reload. Faster reloads are most important in CQC. If you’re fighting at close range or in close proximity to enemies frequently, you need faster reloads to survive multiple targets in quick succession. If you tend to fight at medium range or longer, quick reloads are less vital, and you can generally skip this attachment in favor of other options.

Foregrip

Vertical foregrip for reduced recoil.

The Foregrip has a simple and useful function: it slightly reduces the recoil of your weapon. This is more useful when you’re fighting at a distance. While up close, you tend to rely more on hip fire, and automatic fire is still fairly accurate, even at a short distance.

Experiment with this attachment on weapons that have significant recoil. You may find it helps to make them a bit more manageable, though keep in mind that good trigger control can work just as well at long range.

Grenade Launcher

Underbarrel mounted grenade launcher.

This expendable Grenade Launcher nets you more explosive punch. On a Class focused toward explosives with the Bombardier Wildcard, the Danger Close Perk, and a secondary launcher, adding a Grenade Launcher can provide even more ability to bombard an objective area.

The Grenade Launcher doesn’t have a massive blast radius, so you need to score a near-direct hit to get kills. However, if you can damage enemies near a key area while your teammates attack, you can make the fight very one-sided.

Heat Sink

Extends firing time before overheating.

Exclusive to energy weapons, the Heat Sink allows you to fire longer before overheating or venting heat manually. This is a very useful attachment for both directed-energy weapons, so if you have the space for it in your Class, take it.

Hybrid Sight

4x magnifier with attached Red Dot Sight.

A very nice, flexible sight that gives you the benefits of two optics in one package. You need to remember to switch between the two sights before you enter a close- or long-range engagement area. You want the correct sight up before you start firing, not while you’re trapped in an actively dangerous area.

IronSights

Ironsights for sniper rifles.

This attachment removes the built-in high-magnification scope on your sniper rifle, replacing it with basic rail Ironsights. This gives you the ability to use your sniper rifle more effectively at close-medium to medium range, at the cost of long-range precision. The MORS is particularly well suited for this attachment, with its high lethality and a reasonably quick reload time for each powerful bullet.

Laser Sight

Increased hip fire accuracy.

A very useful attachment for SMGs, the Laser Sight can also be beneficial when used on full auto ARs. The Laser Sight tightens your hip fire spread significantly, making it more reliable to use at a distance. For some SMGs, this can let you spray down enemies at surprisingly long range without aiming. Because you move faster when you aren’t ADS, this can give you a mobility edge, particularly when combined with Exo movement.

Parabolic Microphone

Suppressed weapons fire appears on your mini-map.

A counter to the Suppressor, this attachment allows you to spot players using it on the mini-map, just as if their weapon were unsilenced. This attachment can either be very useful or completely useless; it depends entirely on what your opponents are using!

It is most consistently useful when playing defense in objective modes, a situation where you never want an enemy to blindside you. However, it is also a good choice in Search & Destroy and Search & Rescue, or in any match where you are up against organized players who are likely to use silenced weaponry.

Quickdraw Grip

Aim down the sights faster.

A simple and useful attachment, the Quickdraw Grip is most useful in mid-range firefights where ADS is necessary and fractions of a second can win a fight. Quickdraw is also helpful when firing while using Exo movement. The faster you can get on target while in the air, the better.

When fighting at long range, bringing up your sights quickly is less important. Up close, you may be utilizing hip fire more frequently. However, at a medium distance, particularly in AR vs AR fights, Quickdraw can win the battle for you.

Rapid Fire

Increased fire rate.

A strong but difficult to use attachment, Rapid Fire boosts your rate of fire at the cost of an extreme loss of accuracy. At short range, this can reduce your time to kill enemies, making you more reliably lethal and giving up the upper edge in CQC fights. Still, you pay for this edge with a severe increase in recoil. If you feather the trigger, you can still hit targets at medium distances, but be mindful of trying to hit enemies at mid-range, especially in the air.

Red Dot Sight

Precision sight.

The most basic of all sights, the Red Dot Sight has no particularly unusual characteristics. It simply provides a clean, clear view on your target. If you dislike Ironsights, but don’t feel the need for a zooming optic, take a Red Dot. It is particularly useful at medium ranges where quick and accurate target acquisition is important, especially for landing hits on other players’ heads when they are hiding behind partial cover.

Stock

Move faster when aiming down the sights.

This is a very, very powerful attachment for mid and close-mid-range combat. Stock allows you to keep your movement speed while ADS. This means that you can move with your sights up, perfectly accurate, and still retain the ability to dodge incoming fire. In a mid-range firefight, this can be a decisive advantage (particularly when paired with the Toughness Perk). But even at shorter ranges, you can take advantage of the Stock by strafing around corners with your sights already up, or sneaking through rooms scanning doors and windows.

Suppressor

Invisible on enemy mini-maps when you are firing.

A critical attachment for stealth-based Classes, the Suppressor masks your weapons’ fire from appearing on the mini-map, unless an enemy has the Parabolic Microphone attachment. Note that because your Exo movement causes you to briefly appear on the mini-map, a full stealth Class requires several Perks on top of the Suppressor to stay completely off enemy HUDs. The Suppressor also dampens your weapons’ fire sound and suppresses muzzle flash slightly, giving you a clearer view on target.

Tactical Knife

Faster melee attack.

Specific to pistol-class weapons and cannot be taken with Akimbo, the Tactical Knife gives you a faster melee stab, with both a quick lunge and a rapid recovery. You give up some close-range firepower, but this attachment can make rounding corners in interior areas a bit safer. If you suddenly stumble across an enemy, you can swiftly and silently dispatch them with a fast melee stab.

Target Enhancer

Advanced optic with built-in threat detection.

A sophisticated optical sight that highlights enemies without the Cold-Blooded Perk, the Target Enhancer is ideal for picking out adversaries behind cover or in dark areas. If you find you have trouble locating threats, use the Target Enhancer to aid your target acquisition.

Thermal Sight

Magnified optic that shows heat signatures in warm colors.

The Thermal Sight is a zooming optic that requires steadying your aim, just like a sniper scope. The Thermal scope gives you infrared heat vision, allowing you to spot targets easily at a distance. The tradeoff is the steadying requirement, even on weapons other than sniper rifles.

You can use the Thermal Sight in combination with Smoke Grenades, as Thermal can pierce directly through the smoke. This can be surprisingly effective if used on key objective areas. Smoke the location to block enemy line of sight, and then shoot at any targets in or beyond the smoke to eliminate them.

Tracker

Wounding an enemy causes them to show on your mini-map.

A nasty attachment for close to mid-range combat, the Tracker causes enemies to be highlighted on your HUD when you hit them with your bullets. Once tracked, you can pursue them anywhere; they can only avoid being tagged with the Low Profile Perk. This attachment ensures that if you wound a target at medium range, and they duck behind cover or evade with Exo movement, you can hunt them down and finish them off.

Variable Zoom Scope

A variable zoom scope with three levels of zoom.

A special sniper rifle scope that allows you to cycle through three levels of zoom, this is a very useful sight. It gives you a short-range magnification when you want to go for snapshots, and a longer-range zoom when you need precision fire at a distance. The flexibility is particularly useful on larger maps.
