Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare Signature Series Strategy Guide › SINGLE-PLAYER WALKTHROUGH

Throttle

To reach New Baghdad, you must pilot a fighter jet through the canyons. Hostiles attempt to deter your progress with troops on the ground, on bridges, and flying alongside. Take out as many of the opposition as possible as you fly through the narrow passage.

Fighter Jet Controls

The Left Stick steers the aircraft. You can activate afterburners with the Jump button, but be sure you have enough room ahead, or you could plow into the side of the canyon. Crouch initiates the air brake, allowing for tight turns and quick avoidance maneuvers. Press the Aim button to fire the machine guns, using the yellow reticle to line up the enemy. The plane’s weapon system automatically locks on to targets in the middle of your HUD, as indicated by a red outline. Squeeze the Fire button to release a missile, which homes in on a target.

If you prefer your flight pitch controls to be inverted, you can enable this in the Options menu.

Watch out for falling bridges, arches, and buttes. Use the air brake, and steer away from the falling debris. At the hydroelectric dam, lock on to the key points, and fire your missiles to bring it down.

Slow down to get behind trailing enemy aircraft, and light them up as they pass.

After crashing down in New Baghdad, follow Gideon to the left, using your Grapple ability to quickly reach higher ledges.

Cut through the building to join the battle. Three MD Turrets have set up on the balconies to the right in order to repel air strikes. Your first objective is to destroy them. You do not have to completely obliterate the gun, as long as you remove the gunner.

You have several options for how to proceed. You can use the Lynx sniper rifle at the entrance to reduce the turrets’ numbers before moving in. You can take a direct approach by jumping down to the street and fighting your way to the turrets. A third option is to use your Grapple to reach the guns quickly.

This fight can quickly become overwhelming. Soldiers litter the street and the balconies around the turrets. You can skip much of the chaos on the street by grappling over to the tracks, where only a couple enemies get in your way as you run toward the objective.

A Warbird flies between you and the turrets. When you get the chance, grapple up to it to take out one of the enemies inside. Quickly shoot the pilot, and bail out the other side.

From here, you can grapple up to one of the MD Turrets. You can take them out in any order, though there are advantages to taking one before the other. Grapple up to the far-right balcony and then up to the roof to reach the first turret.

There are four ways to take out the turrets:

»From standing next to a turret.Hold the Use button when next to a turret to jump on top and automatically rip the gunner out.

»From on top of a turret. Hop on top of a turret, look at the hatch, and press the Melee button to pull the foe out.

»Grapple directly to a turret. If you can get an angle to grapple directly to a turret, you automatically open the hatch and grab the pilot.

»Destroy from afar. You can also just destroy the gun, though it is unusable at that point. Use another turret to target it, or use your own weapons to take it down.

If a turret is overtaken, you control the weapon until you exit. Hold the Fire button to shoot the cannon. Hold the Lethal Grenade button to lock on to your target, and then release the button to fire the missiles. Two aircraft show up each time you enter a turret, so shoot them down.

At this point, you can move on to the other two turrets and overtake them, or simply use the first one to destroy them from afar.

Your objective changes to regrouping with the rest of Sentinel once you have destroyed the turrets. However, ASTs soon show up below, and they are much easier to take out with an MD Turret. Exit the gun, wait for someone to mention the ASTs, and then get back inside.

Target the red-outlined enemies below, and take them out with the cannon and missiles. Once you run out of targets, hop down and join the fight on the streets of New Baghdad.

Fight your way down the street, using the various levels to avoid packs of enemies. ASTs are present all the way down the street, so be ready with an EMP Grenade if needed.

Grapple Kill an AST

If you can get behind an AST, a grapple icon appears on the operator’s back. Use the device to pull the pilot out and slam him into the ground—a very satisfying way to eliminate him.

The streets remain extremely hectic the rest of the way through the mission. Stay on your toes, and use everything you have to defeat the hostiles. The Boost Jump and Grapple abilities allow you to quickly retreat from danger.

Ammo Stash

There are ammo dumps all over the streets, so if you need a refill, seek one out. However, it isn’t too hard to find another gun. Refer to the map for their locations.

If you left the Lynx sniper rifle before, grab it and start thinning out the opposition on the next street. From the bus stop shelter, you can get a bead on another AST that patrols the raised walkway on the left side of the street.

Tanks show up at the end of the street, but a Stinger rocket launcher has been spotted nearby. As usual, it is up to you to get it and destroy the tank. Hop onto the left walkway, and clear out some of the hostiles on the street. Then, run over to the gun that leans against a crate just before the tanks.
