How about some Shakespeare? The Globe Theater may look a bit out of place among your flashy casinos, but it’s yet another way to draw tourists into you city.
Let’s face it. If you’re not interested in gambling, there’s not much to do or see in your city. It’s time to change that by selecting one of the buildings in the Culture menu. Adding an Expo Center, Pro Stadium, or landmark to your city is just what you need to draw large numbers of tourists.
But don’t get ahead of yourself. Prematurely constructing one of these attractions can put a major strain on your transportation system, potentially leading to citywide paralysis as swarms of cars and taxi cabs descend from the regional highway, leading to gridlock.
For this reason, it’s essential to provide a comprehensive mass transit system to accommodate large crowds. Once you’ve handled the transportation system, consider zoning commercial nearby to encourage the creation of shops and hotels, giving tourists something to do after attending an event or visiting a landmark.
The more shops and hotels in the area, the longer tourists are likely to stay in your city, spending their hard-earned Simoleons in the process.

This arena serves as a popular entertainment hub, attracting low/medium wealth residents and tourists. Like most attractions, build it within walking distance of a regional transportation hub such as the Passenger Train Station or Bus Terminal to accommodate large numbers of attendees.
Supplement it with Bus and Streetcar Stops nearby. Events held at the Expo Center must be scheduled by clicking on the building and selecting the Schedule Event option. This brings up the Event Scheduler window, allowing you to choose from three possible events: Motocross, Sports Event, and Rock Concert.
Each event costs a different amount to schedule. You’ll only get your money back if enough local Sims and tourists attend the event. In this sense, running an event is a bit of a gamble, with your transportation system being a major factor in determining whether the event will be profitable.
Expect traffic to increase around the arena a few hours before the start of the event—all events start at 8 PM. After the event starts, click on the Expo Center to see attendance levels and the payout. The payout increases as more and more Sims enter the Expo Center.
You will only earn the maximum payout if the Expo Center is filled to its 3,000 Sim capacity. New events can be scheduled every day, but if you don’t have enough money to schedule an event, consider shutting down the Expo Center to save money.

The Pro Stadium is a massive 15,000-seat arena capable of drawing huge crowds and piles of Simoleons. Like the Expo Center, don’t fool around when it comes to providing mass transit around this facility. Build a Passenger Train Station as close to the stadium as possible so incoming tourists can walk to events.
Also, make sure the stadium has adequate coverage by shuttle buses, municipal buses, and streetcars—build at least one Bus Stop and one Streetcar Stop within walking distance of the stadium. Events at the Pro Stadium function similarly to events held at the Expo Center.
However, events here have a much higher initial cost to schedule, but the potential payouts are also much larger—the Legends of Rock event can bring in as much as
600,000 in one evening! For best results, schedule events in the early morning or right after an evening’s event has concluded.
This will give Sims and tourists plenty of time to make it to the stadium prior to the start of an event. Making money off events at the Pro Stadium is a true test of your city and region’s transportation system—even in a large city, filling all 15,000 seats is no easy task.
Make sure nearby cities have access to regional transit hubs like the Bus Terminal, Passenger Train Station, Ferry Terminal, or Municipal Airport to increase attendance. If neighboring mayors can’t afford these additions, consider gifting them the Simoleons necessary to build these hubs in their cities—don’t worry, you’ll make all that money back over time.
If times are tough, and your city doesn’t have the funds necessary to schedule an event, consider shutting down the Pro Stadium to save some money. An empty event-less stadium only drains your city’s treasury. You can always reopen it once the economy recovers.

Landmarks

Ready to add some international flair to your city? Landmarks are tourist magnets, drawing tons of camera-toting visitors from the region and beyond. There are several landmarks to choose from, shown in the accompanying table, each with a real-world counterpart.
Each landmark has a huge attraction rating, mostly for low and medium wealth tourists—build the Sydney Opera House if you want to draw high wealth tourists. But before building any landmark, make sure your city’s road and mass transit networks can handle the sudden deluge of visitors, otherwise a flood of cars and taxi cabs are likely to clog your city’s streets, backing up onto the regional highway.
As with the Expo Center and Pro Stadium, provide a mix of overlapping mass transit options around each landmark. First of all, make sure the landmark is within walking distance of a regional transportation hub like the Bus Terminal, Passenger Train Station, Ferry Terminal, or Municipal Airport.
Add more mass transit alternatives by building at least one Bus Stop and Streetcar Stop nearby. Once you’ve attracted tourists, provide enough shops, hotels, and other attractions to keep them in the city as long as possible. Otherwise they’ll leave after staring at your landmark for a few hours.
The landmark is simply a magnet to draw tourists into your city. It’s up to you to figure out ways to keep them in town until they’ve spent all their money.
