SimCity eGuide Essentials Great Works

Great Works

Mayor, now that the city is a smashing success, perhaps it’s time to expand your vision and enhance your legacy with the construction of a Great Works project?
The Arcology, International Airport, Solar Farm, and Space Center benefit all connected cities in different ways. But it’s inadvisable to undertake a Great Works project on your own.

That’s where your phenomenal diplomatic leadership skills come in. Reach out to other mayors in the region and form a coalition of cities with one common goal. By contributing resources and workers these cities can collaborate on a mutually beneficial Great Works project, serving as a beacon of progress throughout the region.

Arcology

  • Cost: 1,000,000
  • Operational Cost: 300 per hour
  • Benefits:
    • Workers
    • Shoppers
    • Students
  • Construction Resources:
    • 2,800 tons of Metal
    • 1,000 tons of Alloy
    • 60,000 crates of TVs
  • Prerequisites:
    • City in the region with 58,000 residents
  • Description: Building this towering pinnacle of human architecture requires skilled workers and resources. This dense ecosystem contains everything necessary to sustain a massive community. Sims live here but many of them will commute to cities in the region to work, go to school, or shop.

Have a shortage of workers or shoppers? Don’t like wasting space on residential zones?

Then perhaps the Arcology is a good fit for your region. This structure functions like a massive futuristic apartment building, providing cities in the region with a practically endless supply of workers, shoppers, and students.

These Sims travel to the connected cities in the region and fill vacant jobs, shop in commercial zones, and attend schools. This allows you to create bustling industrial and commercial cities without worrying about residential—at the end of the day, everybody goes home to the Arcology.

When it comes to producing metal and alloy, don’t overlook the contributions of a Recycling Center. Every little bit helps.

When starting a game in a new region, the Arcology is likely the first Great Works project to be unlocked, only requiring a city with 58,000 residents. And as long as your region has a robust metals and electronics business underway, supplying the construction resources shouldn’t be too difficult.

Cities with access to both raw ore and coal can produce the metal and alloy required by building a Smelting Factory. The TVs required will need to be produced at a Consumer Electronics Factory supplied with a steady flow of plastic and processors—consider importing the plastic while getting the processors from an existing Processor Factory.

Alternatively, all metal, alloy, and TVs can simply be purchased on the global market. This is easiest solution, particularly if the connected cities lack the raw materials necessary to complete construction. However, those TVs are really expensive!
