- Description: This sprawling compound requires high tech resources from cities in the region. With the Space Center constructed, mayors in the region will reap the benefits of a more skilled workforce, resulting in more high tech industry. Mayors can schedule rocket launches, which draw tourists to the surrounding cities.
Reach for the stars with this dazzling monument to your region’s commitment to higher education and mastery of extracting and refining natural resources. The Space Center has two primary benefits to the region, serving both as a tourist attraction and a higher learning institution, much like a University.
Rocket launches are scheduled similarly to events at the Expo Center or Pro Stadium, drawing in tons of tourists to the connected cities eager to witness the launch—upgrade your mass transit network to accommodate the crowds. An increase in tourism boosts the profits of your city’s commercial buildings, not to mention those of casinos and other profit-generating attractions.
The Space Center also emits skill level to all connected cities, leading to the development of high tech (tech level 3) industry whether a city has a University or not. So if you want to get rid of all those polluting factories in the region while reaping the high profits of high tech, the Space Center is the Great Works project for you.
The Space Center requires lots of fuel. Maximize production at Oil Refineries by adding more Fuel Distillation Units.
Like the Solar Farm, achieving the benefits of a Space Center requires a great deal of effort and multi-city collaboration. Only attempt this project when you have a minimum of three cities with specializations in petroleum, metals, and electronics. Rely on the oil city to extract and refine crude oil into fuel with an Oil Refinery.
Elsewhere, a mining city with deposits of raw ore and coal can create alloy at a Smelting Factory. At least one city should pursue higher education, building a University as well as an electronics business—the two work well together. Skilled workers from the University are perfect for staffing the Processor and Consumer Electronics Factories, required for producing all those computers.
The University is also required to complete the Space Center research project—without it, the Space Center won’t be available at a Great Works site.
Build a University in your electronics city to supply your Processor Factory and Consumer Electronics Factory with a steady supply of skilled workers needed to make all those computers.
Of all the resources required, supplying the computers is the most time consuming, largely due to the long-term process of ramping up a mature and profitable electronics business. Speed up the process by building out all Processor Assembly Line modules at the Processor Factory while supplying the facility with a skilled workforce from the University—use plastic and alloy gifted by the oil and metal cities to create processors.
At the earliest opportunity, plop a Consumer Electronics Division at your Electronics HQ so you can construct the Consumer Electronics Factory. Don’t even bother producing TVs at this factory. Instead, build out all Computer Assembly Line modules to increase production of computers, shipping them straight to the Space Center site from the nearest Trade Depot or Trade Port. Little by little the computers will arrive at the Space Center, eventually allowing construction to commence.
Before long, Sims will enjoy the sight of rockets streaming skyward, entertaining tourists and inspiring a high tech future for the region.
