With the inclusion of the Heroes and Villains set, the evil Dr. Vu is on the loose, creating havoc in your city. Police have their hands full against this super villain as he solicits Sims to become his henchmen and carry out his dastardly deeds. Fortunately, your city has a crime-fighting protector: Maxis Man!
Dr. Vu
Dr. Vu has several doctorates in vaguely sinister sounding fields, such as mental conditioning, near field communications, and biochemical manipulation. He has turned his genius to creating a global empire for technological and (secretly) criminal domination.
Dr. Vu uses his considerable wealth and company (VuCom) to subjugate others. The legitimate headquarters of his empire is Vu Tower, where he watches over his empire and creates his Cult of Vu. Used throughout the company’s ads are the simple statement “Vu you.”
Dr. Vu lives at Vu Tower. He leaves Vu Tower during the morning commute and travels to high tech industry buildings, giving them (and the city’s treasury) small amounts of money. He only visits each business a maximum of once per day.
If it’s not time for the evening commute yet and he has visited all the high tech industry, he goes home early. Otherwise, he returns to Vu Tower during the evening commute.
Ordinary citizens that visit Vu Tower at night emerge as identical cult-like criminals of different levels. They all wear the same black turtlenecks that match Dr. Vu. These cult members spread around the city, committing a variety of crimes.
Once converted to the Cult of Vu, they live at Vu Tower, traveling to and from there during the normal commute. Once Maxis Man or the police arrest these henchmen, they leave the jail as normal citizens, with their criminal levels reset.
In addition to producing criminals, Vu Tower has several other functions. As a high tech icon, the building encourages the growth of high tech (tech level 3) industry in nearby industrial zones. Vu Tower also boosts the city’s attraction rating, drawing tourists and local visitors, much like a landmark.
By clicking on Vu Tower you can purchase modules like the VuMobile Garage or Vu Laboratory. Vu Laboratory allows you to dispatch the VuBot, a destructive robot that can only be stopped by Maxis Man in his Reticulator.
Maxis Man
Unbeknownst to most, Maxis Man is secretly earnest inventor Will Maxwell. Maxwell was a small businessman who sold his own inventions. Many of these worked great, but due to his own naivete and the predatory practices of companies like VuCom, his business failed.
Realizing he wasn’t cut out for business, Maxwell took all of the inventions he had created and set his sights to helping the people of the city himself.
You can send out Maxis Man at any time by clicking on Maxis Manor. Maxis Man serves as an extension of your health, fire, and police services—he can patrol for crime, treat injured Sims, and even put out fires. More importantly, Maxis Man can confront Dr. Vu and his evil VuBot.
Each time Maxis Man patrols the city and performs heroic actions he earns Renown Points that allows him to level up and unlock new modules like the Turbo Machine Garage and Reticulator Landing Pad. The Reticulator is required to battle Dr. Vu (at VuTower) or the VuBot. If Maxis Man is successful, Dr. Vu is thrown in jail and Vu Tower creates no criminals. But don’t expect Dr. Vu to linger in jail for long…
