Need some items? Or perhaps you need new gear? Then simply approach one of the pink Shelltop shops in the real world, or look for similar enterprising vendors in the dream world. Each shop has two main sections: items and gear. In both the item and gear sections you can choose to either buy or sell. Before buying, make a habit of selling any surplus items or obsolete gear first—this earns you coins you can spend on new merchandise. New items purchased are simply added to your inventory. But when you purchase new gear you’re given the option to equip it. Any old gear is then transferred to your inventory. When buying gear, remember that you must equip both Mario and Luigi. So keep this in mind before spending all your coins.
Badge Shops
There are three badge shops in Pi’illo Island located in Pi’illo Castle, Dozing Sands, and Wakeport. Purchasing badges is purely optional, and they’re not cheap. So before buying any badges, study the different badge combos in the Quick Reference chapter in the back of the guide. There’s no need to purchase badges that produce combo effects you’re not interested in. Instead, find the combo effects you want, then purchase the two badges necessary to produce the desired effect. But not all badges are available at the outset. There are three different badge shop updates that determine when certain badges are available. These three updates occur after reaching Dozing Sands, Driftwood Shore, and Somnom Woods.
