Riftward Bound

Tidus and Firion ignore Shantotto as she waxes scholarly on the intricacies of finding the gate to the rift—their way out of this world.

The enemy has likely set up an ambush on the other side of the gateway, yet Firion’s desire to save Tidus overrides any concern for his and Shantotto’s safety.

Ultimecia awaits on the other side of the gateway into which Kefka pulls Tidus and Exdeath.

None who value their lives would dare come between that tiny black mage and sorceress from the future—not even those who feast upon dimensions.

Though the battlefield may have become enveloped in chaos, Tidus can at least count on a familiar face to help him out.

Though Shantotto disappears, Firion and Tidus know she can take care of herself. These foes, however, cannot be taken care of so easily.

Challenging Leviathan

Cost: 1 memoria Type: battle (Boss)

Available champions: Jecht, Tidus, FirionOpponents: LeviathanLocation: Proving GroundsReward: 2 Treasures

The summons will submit only to those who have proven themselves worthy. Show this sea serpent that your dignity can weather any storm.

Leviathan is perhaps the most evasive and slippery of the summons, which makes sense since it’s basically a huge ocean snake. Guard liberally to block its rain of Hydroshot and Spume droplets, and approach from its flanks where Gush won’t reach. When using melee attacks, go in at double-jump height or higher; its head’s a better target than its tail, and gives you a better idea what it’ll be doing next than if you’re trying to hit its tail from below. Being airborne keeps you out of range of most of its dangerous attacks like Tail Whip and Gush, making Tidus and Jecht great candidates for this fight. Tidus offers almost unparalleled mobility as his attacks constantly change his positioning, making you nearly impervious to Leviathan’s many threats. It is important to capitalize immediately upon Leviathan’s whiffs by going in with fast dash attacks. Quick Cut and Fake Out can be used to squeeze in a bit more damage during Leviathan’s vulnerable states but be careful of using HP Attacks with long animations as those states do not last very long and you may find yourself unable to deal any HP damage if you are too far away from the boss to begin with.

Firion does not have many aerial attacks in his arsenal, so you’ll need to be quick on your feet if you’re playing as him. His attacks also force combos upon whiff, which can leave you dangerously open during attack animations. However, he is the vanguard of the group so he requires fewer hits to bring Leviathan to a vulnerable state.

Gush is the main threat to watch out for, as it comes with a slight delay, it persists for several seconds, and can be tricky to dodge. Although the second phase introduces deadlier abilities and adds even more hazards to the map, you may find it easier than the first phase since Leviathan’s casts now will be split between the powerful Gush and the easier-to-avoid Tsunami.

Try to keep Leviathan positioned in the center of the arena to ensure that the camera angle covers the entire battlefield, because you will be spinning around it constantly to avoid its attacks. When it submerges to use High Tide, Tidal Gyre, or Tsunami, it is a good time to run toward the center to try to reposition it.
