What philosophy is used to adapt various characters from their source games into a unique 3v3 fighting game? How did development arrive at a place where the characters provided some of their own flavor, while maintaining character balance and team dynamics?
In order to make it easier to add lots of characters to the game, we first set down four broad character types and then put our efforts into balancing between these different types.
If we manage that properly, then the gameplay will not suffer, even if each character within a type plays completely differently.
After that, we split the different characters between the types, based on the images we had of them from their original FF titles and the PSP DISSIDIA games, making sure that there was an equal number of each type, with the one exception of the specialists.
What we did not do was try to create easily compatible characters that could well have disappointed their original fans. The same thinking is being applied to the additional characters for the season pass too, where we will continue to develop characters in a way that brings out their individual personalities as much as possible, so you can look forward to seeing even more great fighters to choose from.
