Nostradamus Enigmas are scattered throughout Paris, with each quest starting point represented by the 
icon. These are revealed when Arno approaches the starting position. Each Enigma quest involves finding symbols that appear directly in the environment (on the ground, on a wall, on a statue, and so forth) through Eagle Vision.
Each symbol offers you a riddle which, once deciphered, leads to another symbol and riddle until you locate the final symbol. As a general rule, all clues for the same Enigma can be found within a limited area, usually a relatively small-size neighborhood, though some span an area larger than a single district. Most riddles refer to famous landmarks, represented by the 
icon in the game. Make sure you synchronize all Viewpoints to reduce the difficulty of your search and to make navigation much easier.
You will also find hints and historical background on many landmarks in the in-game Database if you unlocked the corresponding entries by exploring the city.
In the event that you are completely stuck, we offer an explanation of the meaning of each riddle to enable you to make sense of it, with icons referring to the overview map on this double-page spread. If you find yourself in the general vicinity of a symbol but cannot locate it, a glance at the accompanying screenshot will suffice to point you in the right direction.
Interacting with the final symbol of each Enigma rewards you with a Fragment. These collectibles can be used in a secret room of the Café Théâtre, in the mansion’s basement.

Riddle
I wield two blades,

Solution
This points to the famous clock on the Boulevard du Palais on Ile de la Cité. The “two blades” refers to the two hands of the clock. “Flanked by Justice and Law” refers to the two statuettes that represent Justice and Law. “Strike true and fair, hour by hour” refers to the striking of the hour.
Riddle
Encircled by 24 petals of light,
Our Lady of the Rose watches, silent as stone,
O’er believers below.
Look to the Lady lit by the setting sun.
Look to the blossoming rose.
Solution
“24 petals of light” refers to the glass petals in Notre Dame’s rose window. “Our Lady” refers to Notre Dame. “The setting sun” points to the west side. The symbol is found at the base of Notre Dame’s rose window, on the cathedral’s west side.

Stay with Our Lady, standing between flowing waters.
Count one for each book of the Pentateuch from rose to transept.
Five arches, five wide-open eyes, five nightmares.
The last sits atop our treasure:
The gate to the infinite.
Solution
Still at Notre Dame (“between flowing waters” means between the two branches of the Seine, in other words on Ile de la Cité), climb the south face of the cathedral and count five arches back (“one for each book of the Pentateuch”). Each arch also corresponds to a gargoyle with wide-open eyes. The final symbol lies beneath the fifth arch, on the upper level.

Solution
This riddle points to the Grand Châtelet (southwest of your starting position), an “erstwhile bastion” because it was originally a fortress. The “tall square Sentinel” is the distinctive square tower, at the top of which the symbol is found. The mention of “9th month spill his blood” refers to the September massacres, during which the prisoners of the Châtelet were killed.

The martyrs of Herod,
In their ageless temple,
Haunt the alchemist’s tones,
With their macabre, soundless dance.
Solution
This riddle points to the Cemetery of the Holy Innocents (the “Martyrs of Herod”), a few steps to the north of the Grand Châtelet. The cemetery was partly funded by alchemist Nicolas Flamel, hence the reference to “Alchemist stones”. A macabre dance mural is visible in the south gallery (hence the reference to a “macabre, soundless dance”): this is where you will find the symbol.

The Saint of the Holy Stag

Solution
This riddle points to the nearby Église St. Eustache. “Belly of World” refers to Ventre de Paris (literally “The Belly of Paris”) where the church is located. The original symbol of St. Eustache includes a stag deer with a cross, hence the mention of the “Saint of the Holy Stag”. “Austral hand” points to the south. The symbol is found at the top of the southwest bell tower.

Riddle
Erudite Rulers of thy façade
Stone-faced before the blood of executions

Solution
This riddle points to the Hôtel de Ville: the symbol is found above the main entrance’s pediment. The main clue is that the busts along the front of the building gaze at the guillotine. In addition, the landmark’s interior was set on fire in 1871.

“A ça ira, ça ira, ça ira,” will resound,
A dire Twist of fate,
To dispel darkness no more
Now to break the necks of many.
Solution
This riddle refers to a famous revolution song (“Ah! Ça ira!”) that describes aristocrats being hung at lamp posts. It points to a lantern from which a man is hung, in front of the Hôtel de Ville. The symbol is at the lantern’s foot. The lantern is thus no longer used as a lantern, but as a gallows, so it “dispels darkness no more”.

Orphan tower, what has become of the rest?

Solution
This riddle points to Tour St. Jacques, to the west. The symbol is found at the top of the tower. The tower used to be attached to a church, but only the tower remains (making it an “orphan tower”). Pascal may have conducted experiments in atmospheric pressure here, and the alchemist Nicolas Flamel is buried here.

In the Sanctuary of Sins,
Light and shadow dance,
And the Ignoble Nobleman
Defines his actions with his name.
Solution
This points to the house of the Marquis de Sade (a few steps to the east of the Cour des Miracles), the “Ignoble Nobleman” whose name is the origin of the term “sadism”. The symbol lies on the ground of the house’s ground floor.

Solution
This points to the large, damaged wooden cross (“the fallen Godly symbol”) that fell in the middle of the Cour des Miracles (the “False King’s Court”).

Solution
This refers to the prostitutes’ corner, represented by a landmark icon to the southwest of Cour des Miracles. The symbol is found on the ground, at the crossroad of all the streets.

Solution
This points to the small clock (“tick along”) overlooking the courtyard in the Louvre (on the landmark’s west side). “Once-Auguste” refers to the fact that building of the Louvre begun with Philippe II, known as Philippe Auguste. “A shelter for the beautiful” refers to the fact that the Louvre is now a museum of art. Louis XVI is the last sovereign to have lived there.

The Citoyen is welcome in a royal garden

Solution
This points to the small noon cannon in the middle of the Palais Royal gardens, just behind the central statue. The cannon is ignited by the sun’s rays through a magnifying glass at midday. “Égalité” is a reference to Philippe Égalité, who owned the Palais Royal in the 1780s. He redesigned the gardens and the surrounding structures with arcades featuring cafés, restaurants, salons and shops. Once open to the public, this entertainment complex became very popular and was frequented by many Parisians, aristocrats and lower classes alike (“Citoyen”). During the revolution, the Palais Royal was even renamed “Palais Égalité”. The symbol is found on the ground, at the foot of the noon cannon.

From the stones of a fortress breached,
A Concord built to span the divide
From where the minds of men gather

Solution
This points to the Pont de la Concorde, a bridge that spans between the Palais Bourbon (home of the National Assembly, “where the minds of men gather”) and the location of the guillotine (“where their necks are severed”). The bridge was built with the debris of the Bastille (“stones of a fortress breached”). The symbol lies in the middle of the bridge.

Solution
This points to the Tuileries Palace, which was once separate (“divided”) from the Louvre, but “united” by Henry IV. The symbol is found between the two pairs of statues (the “stone couples”) above the main entrance.

Solution
This points to the guillotine on Place de la Concorde. The “Last Ray from the Sun” is Louis XVI, last descendent of the Sun King (Louis XIV). The “window” is a slang term for the blade of the guillotine. “Cobblers, soldiers, statesmen and whoresons” refers to the people. The symbol lies on the ground, in the middle of the crowd, at the foot of the guillotine’s east side.

The Magdalen looks towards Death

This points to the graveyard behind the Church of the Madeleine (which “keeps her back”), where Louis XVI was buried. It “looks toward Death” because it faces the guillotine on Place de la Concorde, to the south. The symbol is found on a wall of the small mausoleum in the middle of the graveyard.

Built in tribute to the Sun,

Solution
This point to Place Vendôme (“a square” in “four walls”), which was built in tribute to the Sun King (Louis XIV) for the noble classes, but was used by the revolutionaries (“now bedecked with liberty”). The symbol is found behind the statue in the center of Place Vendôme, which holds a French Tricolor flag (“Three colors brightens”).

Those wishing to enter Elysium’s Fields
Must first pay the Farmers their toll
To pass through the Western Gate

Solution
This points to the western end of Champs-Élysées (“Elysium’s Fields”), where stands a gate originally erected by tax collectors, which would eventually be where the Arc de Triomphe is found (“where Triumph will soon stand”). The symbol is found on the ground, at the foot of a lamp post that faces the gate (a few steps from a knocked-over cart).

Solution
This points to the Medicis Tower, by Les Halles. Lorenzo de Medici was called the “Magnificent”. His great-grand-daughter, Catherine de Medici, is famous for her interest in astrology and the Medici Tower she had built with an iron cage at the top. The symbol is found at the back of the tower, at the foot of the ladder that leads to the iron cage.

Solution
This refers to the statue of an angel with wings holding a spear, which stands in a French garden with hedges to the north of the Bastille. The statue is visible from the Enigma’s starting point (look to the east), at the heart of a small cross-shaped pedestal.

Solution
This refers to the church towards which the angel’s spear points. Examine the floor by the gargoyle (“demon”) that sits next to the church’s roof.

This refers to the nearby tower (north from the gargoyle) that looks like a “Rook” chess piece. It stands in the center of a hedge maze (“The green heritage of Daedalus”). The symbol lies on the tower’s roof.

This points to the Temple’s easternmost tower, east being the direction that Templar crusaders (“fellow-soldiers of Christ”) headed towards (“Jerusalem”). The symbol is found at the top of the tower, on the wall just below the roof.

Solution
This points to the fountain outside the Temple, a few steps away from the front entrance. The symbol is on the floor, right by the fountain.

This points to a sarcophagus found deep inside the Temple’s crypt. You can access this crypt from the Temple’s graveyard (a short walk to the south of the Temple). You have to slide beneath a wooden structure on the way.

Solution
The “Saint Twin Brothers” refers to the dual-saint Church of Saint-Gervais-Saint-Protais, where the quest start marker is found. Look for an ancient elm tree a few meters to the west, where a judge dispensed justice in medieval times. The clue is on the floor, at the foot of the tree.

Sanctuary of Bishops by birth,

Solution
This refers to Hôtel de Sens to the east (“fools the senses by its name” being a pun on “Sens”), originally owned by the archbishops of Sens, and now host of a famous library. The symbol is found at the back of the only square tower, just below its rooftop.

This refers to Place des Vosges to the North. “Shifting name” refers to the fact that the Place has had many different names. “Sovereign felled from horse” refers to the nearby field where Henri II was killed. The “bronze horseman” refers to the central statue, destination of this Enigma.The symbol is found on the statue’s pedestal, right below the horse’s head.

Solution
“Daughters” refers to smaller churches close to Notre Dame, on Ile de la Cité. The “face of the Son” refers to a stone carving of the Christ above the entrance gate of the church between Notre Dame and Sainte Chapelle. This stone carving is where you will find the symbol. There’s a Tricolor flag just below it, which can help you locate it.

Solution
This refers to a statue of Henri IV on a horse, beyond Place Dauphine, where the river splits into two branches (“the blue ribbons diverge”). Henri IV was assassinated after he converted to Catholicism with the famous phrase: “Paris is worth a mass”. The symbol is found on the statue’s pedestal.

This points to the triangular pediment roof on the northern face of the Pantheon. The symbol is found in the small passage just behind the pediment.

This points to the circle of columns on the Pantheon’s roof. The symbol is on the south side.

This points to the wall just below one of the paintings, high in the Pantheon’s nave.

A “font” is a receptacle used for holding water for baptism, where wisdom is imparted. The term “fount of knowledge” is also used, and derives from “fountain”. The original sin as it is described in the bible occurred in the garden of Eden (where “Man first learned Sin”). This riddle points to a fountain out in the Luxembourg Gardens, south of the palace. The symbol is on the ground.

This points to the catacombs underneath the Luxembourg Gardens. The symbol is found on a wall, near candles, at the very end of the tunnel.

Solution
This points to the top of the Collège des Quatre Nations. The symbol is found on the south face of the pinnacle structure.
Riddle
Where the sun rises on,
The face of Robert’s School.
Eyes turn upward to the sky,
From a domed peak.
Solution
This points to the observatory on the east side of the Sorbonne (a college that was founded by Robert de Sorbon). The symbol is found between windows, just below the very top of the Observatory.
Riddle
Far from the river,
Those men who observe,
Gaze up at the stars.
Solution
This points to the rooftop of the Paris Observatory, at the very south of the city. The final symbol is found at the foot of the telescope, in the southwest angle of the rooftop.
Puzzle Solutions
By obtaining Fragments from the Nostradamus Enigmas, you can gradually open the cage where the quest’s ultimate reward is locked away, in the underground section of the mansion where the Café Théâtre is found.
By reaching certain milestones in Fragment collection (4, 10, and all 18), you gain access to new rooms where you can solve puzzles. Once all three puzzles have been solved (each rewarding you with a Memento found in a chest by the room’s lever) and all three layers of the cage are removed, you can collect your grand prize: the Thomas De Carneillon armor, which becomes available in the Legacy Room.
The Cella Constellatio
Once you have four Fragments, you can unlock the Cella Constellatio by interacting with the central pedestal. To solve the puzzle, all you have to do is pair each symbol on the floor with the matching symbol on each pillar. The pairs appear on the room’s wall, but we’ve printed the ones that you need to solve this puzzle in the accompanying screenshots.
When you’re done, an opening appears in the wall just above the puzzle room. Climb back to the room’s entrance, and use the handholds on the pillars to reach the opening. From there, you can interact with the lever to remove the first layer of the cage around the armor.
The Cella Astri
After you have collected 10 Fragments from the Enigmas, you can unlock the Cella Astri by interacting with the central pedestal. In the new room, you have to interact with three switches to align the planets in orbit with their counterparts on the floor. Each switch controls a set of planets that are moved by 90 degrees clockwise or counterclockwise, so you can solve this through observation.
If you want the solution immediately, all you have to do is – from the default configuration – press the left-hand switch three times, the middle switch once, and the right-hand switch three times. Once the puzzle has been solved, the mechanism creates an opening that provides access to another lever. This removes the second layer of the cage surrounding the armor.
The Cella Vaporis
Once you have all 18 Fragments, you can unlock the Cella Vaporis by interacting with the central pedestal. This reveals a room with a long corridor, at the end of which the final lever is found. The challenge is that the balcony where the lever is found is too high to reach from the floor level. You therefore have to use the metal handholds on the wall as stepping-stones, climbing or leaping from one to the next, until you reach the lever. The climbing path to follow is strictly linear. Whenever you reach a dead end, you simply have to perform a Back Eject (release

to leap from one side of the corridor to the other.
The difficulty of this section is dramatically increased by the fact that hot steam is intermittently released by the handholds, which will cause Arno to lose his grip. You therefore have to time your progression carefully to avoid a frustrating restart. Activating the lever removes the final layer of the cage around the armor, enabling you to claim the mighty prize.
