Assassin's Creed Unity eGuide Side Quests

Cafe Theatre Missions

From Sequence 03, you can approach the entrance to the Café Théâtre on Ile Saint-Louis and accept the “mission” at the door to watch an introductory cinematic. In addition to benefits such as personal quarters for Arno, beginning the Café Théâtre side quest storyline provides the Assassin with a regular source of income. By completing the five missions covered here and investing their rewards into upgrades for the premises, you can increase the size of the periodic deposits to a considerable sum.

As lucrative as they ultimately are, we still advise that you hold off until early in Sequence 04 before you attempt any of these missions, as having access to the Phantom Blades and Berserk Blades greatly reduces their potential difficulty. In this section, we concentrate solely on the process of completing the missions. For a presentation of the Café Théâtre and the other Social Clubs around Paris, see the Reference & Analysis chapter.

Auto-da-fé
Unlocked:

Beginning of Sequence 03

Difficulty:

Walkthrough: Head to the waypoint at the eastern edge of Ile de la Cité. Speaking to your contact reveals three waypoints on Place Dauphine. These represent manuscripts that you have to retrieve. Start by eliminating the soldier closest to you when his back is turned, and pick up the manuscript. Blend in the crowd to kill the nearby Extremist, then move to the other end of the plaza. Hide in the hay cart and assassinate the other Extremist from here when his patrol takes him to you. You can then disable the remaining Extremists before collecting the manuscripts (). The mission ends when you escape the area.

Colette
Unlocked:

Complete “Auto-da-fé” and

purchase the Café Théâtre’s Ground Floor upgrade

Difficulty:

Walkthrough: Once you have accepted the mission, move to the waypoint in the north part of Ventre de Paris. Locate the innkeepers in the investigation zone, and enter the hiding spot marked by a waypoint when directed to do so. Your target runs away after the cutscene, but this is an easy chase. Catch up with the man and assassinate him. The real challenge begins now: you have to rescue Colette at the waypoint to the west, in a well-guarded house. Make your approach from the south and climb on the small balcony (). The two Extremists that appear regularly through the windows have short patrol routes. Either eliminate them from behind or slip inside while they’re facing away. Assassinate the Watcher who is pointing his rifle at Colette before you speak to her. Retrace your steps and escape the area to complete the quest.

Damsel in Seamstress
Unlocked:

Complete “Colette” and

purchase the Café Théâtre’s Hall Floor upgrade

Difficulty:

Walkthrough: Rose Bertin awaits you at the waypoint in the Marais. She stands in a small alleyway, threatened by two Extremists, with additional troops in the vicinity. However, you can exploit a weakness in their defense. If you arrive from the rooftops to the east, you can position Arno directly above the two men, and perform a double air assassination if you have unlocked the skill () or otherwise simply eliminate them with the Phantom Blades. This way, you can avoid conflict with the many guards in this area. Speak to Rose to advance the story. You now need to retrieve three costumes, each within a Restricted Area.

  • Enter the Restricted Area to the northwest from its northeast edge. Climb on the rooftop and air assassinate the Watcher on the balcony below. Snipe the Extremists around you with Phantom Blade headshots, then retrieve the costume to the south, using Stealth Mode when you near the chest.
  • Enter the Restricted Area to the northeast via the southern rooftops. Eliminate the Watcher, then activate Eagle Vision to locate the chest right below your position, as well as three Extremists in the courtyard. Take them out with Phantom Blade headshots, then go down to collect the costume.
  • Approach the Restricted Area to the east from the rooftops that border its north side. Dive in the hay cart with a Leap of Faith, then wait until an Extremist passes by your position to assassinate him from your hiding spot. This leaves only two soldiers in the courtyard. Deal with these in any way you see fit, then retrieve the costume. Leave the highlighted area to complete the mission.

The Queenʼs Necklace
Unlocked:

Complete “Damsel in Seamstress” and

purchase the Café Théâtre’s Exterior upgrade

Difficulty:

Walkthrough: The contact you have to speak to is found in the La Bièvre district. He points you to an Extremist that you must steal or loot a necklace from. With four bodyguards walking behind your target, including a dangerous Seeker, this is a force to be reckoned with. For an easy outcome, you can hit your target (a Defender) with a Berserk Blade. Try to hit the Brute or the Seeker as well. Once the ensuing skirmish comes to an end, you can snipe any survivor and casually loot the necklace. Alternatively, you can tail the group from the rooftops. When they reach the main street and take a left, run ahead of them and jump into the hay cart that lies in the middle of the street (). You can then assassinate the Defender as he passes by the hay cart, which rewards you instantly with the necklace. This will force you to run away from his bodyguards, but it is easy enough to escape them by sprinting south – drop a Smoke Bomb if you want to be safe. When the necklace is in your possession, head to the waypoint to the south. Enter the Restricted Area via the northern rooftops, and you will soon notice that there are relatively few Extremists in the area: you can actually speak to the smuggler without disturbing them at all.

Foxy Renard
Unlocked:

Complete “The Queen’s Necklace” and

purchase the Café Théâtre’s Upper Floors upgrade

Difficulty:

Walkthrough: Your contact is waiting for you in the Invalides district, all the way across the map. The priest you have to steal from is standing in the nearby Restricted Area. There is no need to infiltrate this well-guarded zone. Instead, make your way to a rooftopto the west of the Restricted Area, where you can locate the priest with Eagle Vision. The moment you identify him, he will begin walking with his bodyguards.

Once outside the garden, he will take a left. Run ahead of the group and jump into the hay cart further down that street. The priest will then come to you, enabling an easy hiding-spot assassination (). At this point, escape is the best course of action: there are some very high-level opponents in the area. Once you are in the clear, return to your contact to the south. Climb to the observation point as directed. After the short scene, turn around and drop down to street level to tackle Renard’s henchman. This reveals the position of Renard’s hideout, to the north. If for any reason you failed to rob the priest or to tackle the henchman, you will have to find out where Renard’s hideout is by searching two investigation zones: infiltrate the small enclosure via its (unguarded) east side and speak to the man inside; in the second area, stealth isn’t an option, so climb to the rooftops and dispatch the snipers before using the Berserk Blade/Poison Gas Bomb combo to eliminate all targets – you can then read the documents on the crate.

The building where Renard is hiding is teeming with Extremists, but you can achieve your objective with very little complications. Approach from the rooftops and identify the single guard on the uppermost floor (a Defender). When he leaves his position at the only open roof window, follow him and quietly assassinate him with the Hidden Blade. An activation of Eagle Vision will reveal that Renard is just below your position. There are many Extremists on his floor, so it makes sense to take him down from where you are, in the attic. Here are two efficient ways to achieve this.

  • One option is to lure Extremists towards the ladder by throwing a Cherry Bomb through the trap door, then hit one of them with a Berserk Blade. All enemies will home in towards your victim, including Renard. Toss a Poison Gas Bomb through the trap door to damage them all, then finish them off with a second explosive.
  • Alternatively, you can lure Renard himself towards the ladder by throwing a Cherry Bomb through the trap door, then hit him with a Phantom Blade for an easy finish.

After Renard is dead, you can retrace your steps and leave the highlighted area to complete the contract.
