Assassin's Creed Unity eGuide Reference & Analysis

Weapons

Weapons can be acquired as rewards or purchased directly from the Character Customization menu. You can change your selected weapon via the Character Customization menu or via a Gear Loadout statue in any Café. Weapons come in five main categories: One-Handed, Long, Heavy, Pistols and Rifles.

Every weapon is rated in three categories that define their overall effectiveness in combat.

Normal Damage: This attribute is used to determine the strength of each successful standard attack.

Strong Attack Damage: This attribute is used to determine the strength of each successful Strong Attack, performed by holding / once you have unlocked the corresponding skill.

Perfect Parry Bonus: This attribute is used to determine the duration of the window of time where it is possible to perform a Perfect Parry. The higher this value, the longer you have to execute this precision riposte.

Ranged weapons are also rated in three additional categories:

Damage: This attribute is used to determine the strength of each shot fired at a target’s body (headshots are always lethal).

Capacity: The number of shots that can be fired before you have to reload.

Reload Time: The time in seconds required to reload the weapon.

Perhaps more so than in previous Assassin’s Creed episodes, purchasing new weapons as you progress in the storyline is a vital step in Unity. With combat becoming increasingly difficult with each passing Sequence, you really need to acquire weapons with improved stats to keep in step with the challenge posed by your enemies as they level up.

The following tables reveal the purchase price, unlock conditions and modifiers for the many weapons that Arno can wield. Note that the damage values are increased by 25% when you upgrade the weapon in question. You can use these tables to identify which weapons you have access to at any given time, and choose the one that seems best suited to your current progression.

One-Handed Weapons

One-handed weapons are fast and allow for maximum agility in combat. Once the corresponding skill is unlocked, their Strong Attacks can break any foe’s defense and inflict significant damage.

Pistols

Pistols are ranged weapons that you can use at any time. Select your firearm with . You can fire by tapping /. Alternatively, hold the button to facilitate manual aiming with , then press / to fire.

Though noisy, all Pistols are very potent weapons, and can prove especially useful during battles. If you find yourself in a sticky situation, consider firing

one or two snap shots to take down the most threatening enemy you are facing. Pistols cause moderate damage when targeted at the body, but instant death in the case of a headshot.

You can predict the accuracy of your shots using the aiming reticle. The longer you aim, the smaller the reticle becomes – and the more accurate the shot will be.
