Milestone 15: Kris

Extract Lily Drawl

You begin in a duct overlooking a large shipping area. Break open the grate and drop down on an unsuspecting enemy to kill him.

Take cover behind a crate and engage other enemies that are attacking you. Be cautious of the grenades that they throw at you. Defuse them before they detonate.

Once you have eliminated the enemies, turn around to see a poster. Activate your DART overlay to uncover a hidden meaning.

Cover Lover

Make it past the conveyor belt without taking any damage from the turret in order to earn this award.

There is a turret in the middle of the large room. It is protected by a jamming device so you can’t breach it. However, you can breach the controls to the conveyor belt. Once it starts up, crates begin moving along it.

Rush forward and get next to a container. Use it as moving cover to get across the open area and into the control room in the corner.

You are safe once you get into the control room. Pick up a business card for your collection while you are there.

Hey, bro. How are things holding up on your end? I hear they’ve got you on the sewer supply runs now. I’m sure you’ll rotate out of there in no time … hopefully before the smell becomes permanent.

They still have me on security detail up at headquarters. You know that I would follow Kris to hell and back if that was asked of me, but some things here have got me wondering … for example, why the hell did we set up shop in an old abandoned EuroCorp security checkpoint inside their wall? Every time I ask I’m given a different bullshit answer: “It’s the last place they’d expect to find us,” or “it’s a tactically sound strongpoint, we’d be stupid NOT to use it” and so on.

I guess the real answer is “because Kris wants it that way.” Assuming EuroCorp doesn’t have tracking sensors and who knows what inside these walls, they must at least have detailed schematics of the place. I mean, sure, I’ll be happy for these concrete walls if EuroCorp throws a bunch of mercs or rent-a-cops against us, but if they send even one Agent … I don’t know, man. This place is starting to feel less like a stronghold, and more like a tomb.…

Move to the other door of the control room. Stay inside so you have cover from the turret, but can fire at the enemies down below. Kill them all and then activate the conveyor belt on the left to start moving crates. Use the same tactic as before to make it across the open area and into another room where you are safe from the turret.

Once you are in the room, turn off the power to the jamming device.

Now look through the window and hack the turret to turn it against your enemies.

While the turret is killing all the remaining enemies, look around the room to find the poster with some hidden propaganda on it.

Once the turret stops firing and the area is clear, move through the other door of the room and along a walkway. Pick up ammo as you make your way up the steps into another room.

Bust open a door and then follow a corridor into an office area. Override a computer on a desk in order to open a locked door and listen to a recorded voice message by Gary Chang, the Aspari technician.

They see this data, they see it’s from an Aspari source, they’re going to believe, categorically, that it’s credible industrial espionage! They’re going to think EuroCorp really are planning a preemptive systems strike against them, and they’ll have to strike first!

Look, tell her I’ll do it—but tell her I can’t believe it’s come to this, I can’t believe this is what she wants.

Move across the hall and into a room on the opposite side. Look for a poster on one of the walls with invisible messages. Meanwhile, your DART chip has picked up a conversation currently taking place between Lily and Kris—a subverter leader.

INTEL FEED

/ dictionary.database_name.origin

Translation: French/English—“Council of non-federal Anarchists”

/ Intel Summary 99133

CONFA is an international terrorist network originating from political interest groups in Algeria and Morocco, standing against Kader Industrieen’s over-exploitation of the Sahara Desert and North-African oil resources, in 2013.

Ever since EuroCorp’s appearance in 2017, the CONFA manifest states the need to overthrow Syndicate power, reinstate local government rule and democratic elections, effectively returning power to the free people.

The original CONFA network grew from anti-capitalistic interest groups and merged internationally with local cells of socialists, green-earthers and scattered enclaves of survivalists.

The organization is cellular in structure, with only a few key cadres having more than local knowledge of its activities, and its adherents are fanatical in their loyalty. The cells are unorganized, mostly running local agendas, but believed to be present in all major cities across the globe.

/ Intel Update 99134

Attempts by EuroCorp to infiltrate CONFA cells have uniformly failed to produce worthwhile intelligence, and have cost the security services several of their finest covert operatives.

Other Syndicates are reputed to have had similar experiences, leading to persistent rumors that CONFA has managed to infiltrate the Syndicate hierarchy on a global basis.

Excerpt: The example of the imperial powers in the last century provides an apt parallel with what we’re facing today.

Look back to that time. It is questionable whether the colonized nations could ever have thrown off the imperial yoke if their colonial masters had not first exhausted themselves in two horrific world wars.

In a sense, twentieth century imperialism was not defeated, it simply expired, and its victims were able to crawl—slowly, painfully—out from under its rotting corpse.

So with the Syndicates. Their stranglehold is too powerful, too effective, to ever break with simple resistance. But if two or more of those same Syndicates were ever to go to war … Well—I leave you to imagine the revolutionary possibilities that engenders.…

You’re gonna love this one, Lieutenant.

At approximately 1557 hrs a report was received of shots fired at Sedgwick Avenue. The reporting officer was the first unit on scene. Gunfire was still ongoing at arrival, with two EuroCorp Agents chasing and trading fire with a single armed suspect (later identified as an I.I.A. Agent). Reporting officer stayed back as per standing protocol to observe.

Suspect was critically wounded after an intensive five minute firefight, involving small-arms fire, grenades and rocket launchers.

EuroCorp Agents, refusing to identify themselves to the reporting officer beyond last names “Merit” and “Banks,” extracted something from the dead suspect’s head, possibly his chip, and departed the scene after issuing instructions to leave the body for a pending EC tactical response team.

Collateral damage tallied at a dozen dead, double that in wounded. Three apartment buildings suffered extensive structural damage and had to be evacuated, another was left in a partly collapsed state due to heavy rocket fire and will have to be demolished.

But hey, at least our side won! Whoopee!

When the elevator comes to a halt, push open the doors by pressing the action button repeatedly. In the next room you can see Lily talking to Kris. Kris is wearing specter armor, so you have to be ready to take on an invisible enemy.

THREAT ANALYSIS

Feature: Remote chip control, Prototype diffraction field armor

TACTICAL SUMMARY

Firewalled portable control unit and cloak tech armor

Breaching unavailable. System is susceptible to high frequency EMP, which will create disruptions in cloak field generators.

Chip assisted overlay can track and hold cloak signature for a very limited time.

Armor is vulnerable to all types of physical and pulse damage.

INTEL FEED

/ Priority.Status

/ end of entry

Kris detonates some EMP mines right at the start and leaves you without your DART. Rush to find some cover and wait for your DART to come back online. There are EMP grenades around the room, so pick some up.

There are several EMP mines in the room. Breach the mines to set them off and disable Kris’ cloaking ability if he is nearby. Later in the fight, Kris disables the mines, so use them while they are avaialble. You can also watch to see where the fire of Kris’s weapon is coming from and then throw an EMP grenade in that direction. As soon as you can see Kris, open fire on him.

Right after an EMP grenade reveals Kris, he appears on your DART overlay as well. Switch to it to slow down time a bit and give you a chance to get in some hits on him.

Keep moving around and using EMP grenades and your weapons to damage Kris. Once his trauma status bar is at half, Kris rushes in close to assault you with a melee attack.

Quickly use the Backfire app on his weapon as he is about to shoot you. In the process of the attack, you lose your weapons and now must rely on a razorback pistol you pick up as well as EMP grenades.

Kris starts throwing EMP grenades at you. Quickly move toward the location where the grenades originate and use your DART to momentarily see Kris before he disappears from your view again.

If you look closely, you can at times see where Kris is due to a shimmer effect. Throw an EMP grenade at that spot and be ready to shoot when his cloaking goes down. Always take a couple of extra shots after Kris disappears in case he is still at that spot and has not yet moved.

When his health gets low, up the pressure to bring the fight to an end. As soon as he goes down, back away quickly. Kris has an explosive device that detonates when he dies.

SEE NO EVIL

Defeat Kris without making him visible using EMP or DART Overlay, on normal or hard difficulty, in order to earn this award.

Finally, move in and extract a chip from Kris’s wrist, which is one of the few parts to remain after the explosion. Upgrade your own chip with a new ability.

Return to the elevator and press the button to go to another floor. Move though a corridor and into a room. Look on the wall to the right to find a poster with some propaganda hidden on it.

Climb up the ladder to get to a catwalk. However, as you reach the top, Lily kicks you in the face and knocks you to the ground. She drops down and holds a gun to your face.

Press the action button to disarm Lily and reverse the situation. Now you have her on the ground with a gun pointed at her. Pull the trigger to terminate her.

When you try to pull the trigger, your chip triggers a reaction Lily previously implanted into it to prevent you from harming her. As a result, you are helpless on the ground while Lily moves to leave.

Just as she is about to get away, Agent Merit and an extraction team drop in to take you both back to EuroCorp.
