Equipped with the latest Zomboss do-it-yourself gear, the Engineer is ready and able to master the art of building stuff—what it does after he builds it is lost on him.

The Engineer Zombie is one of the most important Classes in the zombie army, particularly during the Gardens and Graveyards game mode. The standard Engineer comes with a Concrete Launcher, but all Variants of this Class carry a form of explosive launcher, giving the Engineer hefty mid-ranged punch.

One of the most important abilities that the Engineers have is the ability to build Teleporter and upgradable defensive turrets in Gardens and Graveyards games. If you want to overwhelm plant scum, an Engineer can give a decisive advantage to the whole team.
Special Abilities
Sonic Grenade

The Engineer can cause mayhem with his Sonic Grenade by stunning all nearby plants, making them vulnerable to attack. It also forces all nearby Burrowed Chompers out of the ground.
When not using the Jackhammer, all Engineers and their Variants are fairly slow targets for plants to pick off, and none so dangerous as Chomper. The moment you unlock this Special Ability is a major game changer for any zombie player. It can not only stop Burrowed Chompers, but it can also prevent Sunflowers and Peashooters from using their rooted abilities.
Zombot Drone

The Zombot Drone, also known as “ZED,” can attack plants from above and call in devastating Cone Strikes.
The Engineer can provide information to the rest of the team using a Zombot Drone as a forward scout, or engage in combat with the enemy using its built-in gun. However, the drone has a mere five hitpoints worth of life before it falls to enemy fire, so don’t expect to survive for long if the enemy spots it. The Cone Strike is useful at clearing away large groups of enemies, but you must wait for it to be charged up before you can deploy it. The drone has a limited amount of fuel, so you can’t fly forever. Lastly, if the Engineer is unable to move while flying the drone, the drone will be lost if the Engineer takes even a single point of damage.
Jackhammer

The Engineer Zombie charges into battle on his trusty Jackhammer. It is also outfitted with a weapon mount, so he doesn’t need to miss a beat.
The Jackhammer gives the Engineer Class a massive boost in speed. In the Gardens and Graveyards mode, one popular tactic is to have a group of Engineers use the Jackhammer to rush to the position where the Teleporter is located so they can build it as early into the battle as possible. This special ability also makes for a good escape from Chompers if the Sonic Grenade isn’t available.
Variants
Welder

Arc welding himself to one of Zomboss’s mega blimps was one of the lower points of his employment at Zomboss Inc. He’s now been demoted to the front lines and placed on probation.
Primary Weapon: Welding Blaster

|

The Welder has a distinct advantage with his primary weapon, which not only causes damage on impact, but lights plants on fire to cause additional damage over time. This is a good way to force defenders to fall back from positions you need to pass through.
Electrician

The Electrician Zombie leads the charge with his Volt-O-Blaster, electrifying plants that get in his way.
Primary Weapon: Volt-O-Blaster
Available Upgrades
|

The Electrician Zombie is similar to the Painter in that they are both suited best for close-range combat. The Volt-O-Blaster can output devastating damage to opponents, but the actual shot is so slow that you want to be fairly close to ensure hits on active opponents. To get full use out of the powerful primary weapon, stun the plants with a Sonic Grenade, then get close and give them some unwanted juice!
Mechanic

The Mechanic Zombie keeps all of the Zomboss gear in fine working order (or at least he thinks banging things together is fixing things).
Primary Weapon: Air Gun
Available Upgrades
|

The Mechanic’s Air Gun is the wildest departure from the standard Engineer weapon. Firing a stream of Nuts & Bolts at an extremely high rate, the Mechanic can burn down any plants with surprising speed, assuming you can control the recoil of the Air Gun. It’s primarily a short- to mid-ranged weapon, but it is possible to assist allies from afar with short bursts of Nuts & Bolts.
Painter

Zomboss selected the Painter Zombie due to his steady hands and great attention to detail. The Painter Zombie enjoys painting himself into a corner.
Primary Weapon: Paint Crossbow
Available Upgrades
|

The Painter does his best work up close to a target, as each shot from the Paint Crossbow travels much more slowly than other Engineer weapons. Having to get close to your enemies isn’t so bad, however, as each shot hits hard enough to make the risk worthwhile.
Plumber

The Plumber Zombie brings the tools of his trade to the fight, capable of launching his exploding plungers with amazing accuracy. He can also unclog Outhouse Zombies when needed.
Primary Weapon: Plunge Shot
Available Upgrades
|

The Plunge Shot used by the Plumber is similar to the Engineer’s weapon, but adds water to the damage it causes. Every plunger fired explodes with a large blast radius, allowing you to still keep enemies on their toes, even if you can’t score direct hits.
