Optimal performance in Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare, like any other competitive game, relies on a few indispensable rules of thumb. These rules may seem obvious upon reading, but it’s easy to forget the fundamentals in the heat of battle. Don’t be one of those people, and you’ll see your win counter skyrocket.
Know Your Classes and Characters
Playing Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare means you’ll have your pick of a whole bunch of Classes and characters! Some are invaluable for certain maps; others are specialized toward particular situations and personal play styles. To rule Suburbia, it’s your job to examine each Class’s strengths and weaknesses carefully, and know them all inside and out.
Each time you’re vanquished, you have the opportunity to change to a different skill set by way of a different character Class. Don’t underestimate just how powerful this ability is!

Know Your Support
Much like with character Classes, knowing which Spawnables to place where on your chosen map can lead to victory while letting your hands get far less dirty! Take note of the opposing character Classes on the field, as well as the territory you’re currently dealing with, and make your summon choices accordingly. Then, once you’ve created an impenetrable defense, move in for the vanquish yourself!

Know Your Map
Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare doesn’t have a great many maps, which makes them perfect for close study. Play the game often and take note of special things such as where your Spawnables can be created, chokepoints that can control the map, high points where it might be easy to get the drop on the enemy, and ways to defend your bases and allies.
You’ll find ample examples of map coverage in this guide, but taking the time to formulate your own map strategies for different situations will be one of the best decisions you ever make.
Know How to Use Cover
This goes hand-in-hand with knowing your map. When the enemy’s marching for your territory, make sure you know where to hide and which surfaces around you can block shots, so you can either fire back or make a sneaky counterattack. Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare doesn’t have a crouching function, so you can’t hide behind short boxes and the like, but you’d be surprised how valuable that wall not 10 feet away from you is, and how easy it is to peer your weapon’s sight around it so you won’t be helpless.
Know Your Teammates
Playing with people you know? Great! Learn their style of play so that you can complement or augment it. If one of you likes to rush into enemy territory, another might want to be a sniper to provide backup or medical support. Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare is all about combinations, so talk them out before, during, and after battle—and don’t be afraid to experiment!
Know How to Communicate
This is arguably the greatest skill on this list. Pretty much all of Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare requires that you work in a team, and communication is important, especially if you don’t know your teammates. Playing split screen? Don’t be afraid to shout out orders or pull your partner aside to run strategies. If you’re playing online, then it’s even more important to be able to speak out on the fly (though try not to shout) about the locations of yourself and others, locations of the enemy and defenses, and your overall game plan.
Most importantly, however, be civil and cordial! It’s the easiest way to make sure your input is valued amongst your teammates.
